Now I'm no lover of criminal behaviour and would not bat an eyelid if the lot of them were put up against a wall and shot tomorrow but the above to me is so insanely stupid it beggars belief.
A stupid girl has been texting someone who is in prison and nearly ended up there herself because of it. How can she be in any way responsible for her boyfriend using a phone illegally in jail. If they don't want scum in prison to have phones then maybe the guards should do something about it, the prisoners sleep in a 3x3 cell, how hard can it be to locate a phone.
House raided and career ruined because she sent a text to another person. Maybe if she wants to text someone in the future she should do it whilst driving, much less severe sentence if she stick to doing that.

Perhaps because she knew he was in prison and was sending him texts expecting him to receive them?Derek Smith said:
Are you suggesting that assisting the commission of an offence is an absurd law?
Don't even know what it means, although I find it stupid that a girl can get into trouble for texting a phone that someone shouldn't have because the guards are too incompetent to take it off him.Suppose my mate has been drinking and I text him to come and pick me up, is it my fault he is stupid enough to drink drive, should I go to prison for texting him? To me it looks like an easy target again.

It's a two way street and clearly there's the risk of escalation i.e. him 'tasking' her to do things on his behalf or facilitating him communicating with people whom he should not be.
It's in the public interest to discourage people to communicate with people in prison in this manner.

She's attractive, young and very lucky not to have been more seriously punished.
It is absurd it got to court. How has replying to a text helped him commit an offence?? He is the one choosing to break prison rules by possessing and using a mobile phone.
Now if shed given him the phone or topped it up i could understand.
The sentance is rediculous as well. People get less for various violent crimes with real victims.

Utterly ridiculous and she should never have been prosecuted for it.
Easy target that would make the papers and "convince" others not to do the same.
That's rather the point. Guess which of the 3 principles of sentencing this one falls into...Easy target that would make the papers and "convince" others not to do the same.
1. Retribution
2. Rehabilitation
3. Deterrence
4. Reparation...
No, there are 4 principles.
Oh, you get my gist.....
