Hi all, had a bit of a weird one at the weekend. Was buzzing around chelmsford last night just driving about and had planned to get a few bits of shopping for the flat. Anyway - i get a feeling i am being followed so the paranoia kicks in and i dart down a side turning and stop the car.

Sure enough in behind me pulls up an unmarked Focus ST with the Blackpool illuminations in the front grill.

long story short, they search me and the car under the misuse of drugs act (!?) but the car is clean so then i get told 'they don't believe my story' as to why i am in chelmsford (i live in hornchurch) and they think i am up to no good but can't prove anything they will let me on my way.

I know that not many people outside of the petrol head world understand about 'going for drives' but still...

anyway, my question - is it likely that they would have added a marker to my car that i am a suspicious dude and to search me and pull me over every time they see me?

Will there be any 'intelligence' added - it bothers me that it would be an incorrect opinion rather than fact that will disrupt any future pleasure drives in areas covered by Essex Police?

If you're young and in a nice car, or just in a nice car and "driving spiritedly", then chances are you'd be getting tugged regardless. I used to get pulled almost every weekend when I drove my Dad's fleet car, and haven't been speculatively pulled for several years now.

If there was a marker you'd never know anything about it, so pointless worrying really.

Change your car. You will be pulled over endlessly from now on. they will definitely put a drugs marker against your car, but they will never admit it, or prove you you that they haven't.

Relevant username!

I had a friend who had a marker against his car years ago. Couldn't drive round town without getting tugged several times a week. Never charged with anything either. In the end he had a solicitor write a strongly worded letter to the head plod and the 'harassment' stopped.

Stop talking out of your arse. They won't.

OP out of interest what grounds did they give you when searching you?

They said misuse of drugs act because i seemed jittery.. i was like, what?! - i was nervous about being pulled that's it and the weird thing was they didn't test me for drink or drugs so i couldn't have seemed that bad? for the record i was sober, hadn't had a drink since Saturday evening which was 2 bottles of peroni and as for drugs its been about 15 years since i last dabbled.

Easy, OP go to your local nick and ask for a copy of the stop search record.

If they haven't done one, not only is that, wrong, but they won't be able to put a marker against your car.

Also, an intelligence report may have been submitted (unlikely) but this itself will be researched before being put on as a live marker.

That doesn't say if there is a LIVE record against the car though.
And rocking upto the front desk asking for a PNC to be done against XYZ reg so you can see wont go down well either

Nothing will happen and there will be no marker on your car. It will be logged on local Essex systems that your car was searched but that isn't a marked and won't flag up.

Once again proving how little you know...

Every stop search should be recorded on the correct system.

When you are stopped you should be told you are entitled to a record of that search.

This is what I am saying to OP to request.

Not a PNC check.

If a record isn't live it wouldn't show up anyway so that's irrelevant?

Chances are they stopped you as the MO of dealers in essex is driving round in decent or normal cars out of area and they thought you worth a stop.

Nothing will happen next so relax.

Dont Trust them.

the police out on patrol dont use the paper records of the stop search history. they use the PNC, what shows up on there is the only thing that matters.

Are you saying searches are recorded on PNC?

If so you are very wrong.

All the decent roads around Essex, and you choose to drive around Chelmsford? Are you sure you didn't have any drugs on you?

lol - yes i am sure. the hour they spent going over the car (and leaving the doors open in the pouring rain) was more than enough to prove myself and and the car were clean.

I just like chelmsford.. what can i say? smile

No, im saying that the only flag that matter are the ones infront of whatever officer is looking to bump up their stats for the week.

I.e PNC and ANPR.

Its only on those systems that a flag will effect the odds of him being pulled or not.

The patrolling officers arent going to see him, quickly drive back to HQ, rummage through a filing cabinet of dusty papers, and then head back out to find him again.

easy option OP.. change the flippin' car, its not worth the risk of being tasered or shot while you drive your grandmother to the shops
