Bit of an odd one - the DVLA car tax webpage shows one of our vehicles with the tax not due until February 2018, but we haven't recently paid for it... nor is it on a Direct Debit.

If this is a SNAFU on the part of DVLA, what are the chances of the vehicle getting pulled, and/or a fine popping through the door someday soon?

I'm taking screenshots each day of the site showing it's not due, but that's really not gong to be sustainable!

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'll be attempting to phone DVLA tomorrow.

someone else may have paid your tax in error

do you even have the option to tax it at the moment?

Could someone have cloned it then sold the ringer onto some unsuspecting punter who's taxed it online?
Can you check insurance and MOT status too?

I had wondered, but I can't see how you could pay it in error? You'd need the V5 (or at least the 11 digits off it) or the V11 reminder (which I didn't think they were sending out - certainly none has been received).

It appears to be possible to pay for it online now, but the page asks if you know that it's not due until Feb 2018.

It's not like it's a terribly common vehicle either. MOT and Insurance status all good.

I'm wondering if it is possible, and that there's a fairy godmother out there somewhere - we're somewhat strapped for cash right now but would never NOT tax the car!

Much weirdness.

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

If you check the MOT history, you might be able to see a discrepancy in mileage/dates if someone else has MOTed a clone?

Thanks, all. Just off the phone with DVLA, and it turns out my OH is a berk.

It IS on a direct debit. He'd forgotten.

Ha ha! Superb!

There's usually a sensible explanation for these things. smile
