This is a sensitive subject and I don't feel I want to use a 'no fee no pay ambulance chasing call centre' which seems to be all I can find via google.

How do I select the right person to look at it?

Different solicitors specialise in different areas. Ask a reputable local firm to recommend or have a look online some of the big players will do so. My wife used to be a solicitors specialising in medical negligence (based in Dorking) but does not practice any more. its an interesting area.

They are local to me and whilst no direct experience, I have heard their name mentioned positively.

Cannot comment if it was in relation to medical negligence but their local reputation generally is pretty good.

The Law Society has a directory of all registered individuals and firms. You can search it geographically.

http://solicitors.lawsociety.org.uk/?Pro=True

On the left is a list of accreditations, one of which is for Clinical Negligence. Tick that box and it will limit the search to firms with that accreditation. That isn't to say that firms without itare no good - not everyone bothers seeking the formal accreditation - but it gives you a starting point.

AVMA are a big charity supporting victims of medical negligence, and recommend firms that specialise. May be worth contacting them
