Speeding ticket for cloned old reg plate not used since 2011
Discussion
Hi all,
My colleague has just received a letter for speeding (NIP) for 35 in 30 in Bristol. She was at work in Truro at the time.
The odd bit is that it is that the registration plate shown on the NIP was changed for a personalized plate in 2011. The old plate doesn't show up on any database any more, yet this letter has come to her, presumably seeing as that is where it last was registered. Original plate is not on retention.
She is replying stating that she was not at the place at the given time/date of offense + stating that she does not own a car with the given registration mark (along with photocopies of the documentation of the change)
Should that be the end of it or is it worth doing anything else?
Cheers,
Felix

The original registration does not need to be on retention, the DVLA merely 'parks' it against the vehicle, ready to be restored once the personal plate is removed. The only time you'd put an original plate on retention is if you decided to sell it. Then when the personal plate was removed the DVLA would allocate a new age-related plate. My colleague has just received a letter for speeding (NIP) for 35 in 30 in Bristol. So yes, the original VRM would still show as associated with the vehicle, so a quick demonstration that the vehicle has been 'masked' with a personalised plate from a certain date, and statement they were not in the area that the offence took place should suffice.
