Guys our car goes back on the 7th April the insurance runs out on the 2nd - we wouldnt use the car and it would be garaged but does this cause other issues ? One alternative is to insure it and cancel within 14 days I guess.

Our new car wont be insured with the same guys and it arrives in 4 weeks anyway

Return it early or take day insurance.

Perhaps the people you have it insured with now? They might do you a good deal as you're currently a customer

Ain't that the truth! Mannheim have bitten off more than they can chew recently.

Another alternative would be you take it back to where Mannheim were taking it. Bruntingthorpe?

Its a Leaf and the delay is inspection not collection sadly. I am going to renew and then cancel the insurance I think

Check the refund terms, if it's cancellation after annual renewal you'll likely pay only pro-rata fees + admin fee. It may be cheaper to take it back and have rid.

Admiral and RAC do short term insurance policies. When I needed short term cover after buying my wife's lat. at the current insurer gave us a 14 day extension on the old car for around £10 when we made the change which was effectively th pro-data rate.

Can you temporarily add it to another of your policies?

If you can stand the loss, I wouldn't be too worried about letting the insurance expire, but these days you'd be taking a chance not SORNing it - and then the lease company would notice!

Major update ...............................

Once inspected the car must not move AND the insurance passes to Mannheim - you dont need to insure it after inspection !!!!

Who knew ?

Depends on the lease terms - our fleet must be insured whilst in the possession or care of the hirer, however we have a two stage inspection process where the collection driver does the initial inspection with digital images, then a full inspection upon arrival at Mannheim or BCA.

That said, it's not unusual for us to receive an MID notice a few days later. It would seem that some people are not as conscientious about those last few days cover.

Let us know how the inspection goes.

My Leaf isn't due back yet but I am thinking of ending the lease early so would be good to know how strict they are with inspection.
I have a couple of scuffs that were done when parked.
My mileage has increased significantly since I started the lease so I'm finding it impractical to have a EV. Plus 2 of my charge points near to work have both been disconnected :-(

Sorry but have you actually spoken to your insurance company?

I had a delay getting my C63 back to MBFS so phoned my insurance company (Privilege) and they extended to the day of collection and added 12 hours additional to just in cased BCA (who were collecting the car) were late.

I had my new car with Privilege too.

If it's on SORN it's legal. The lease company can't do much about it irrespective of their terms.

If it's leased, the OP probably won't be the Registered Keeper in order to SORN it.
