Was stopped in traffic in my phone.

Yes agree I am in the wrong and it won't happen again.

And unmarked police car pulled up next to me.

He told me off. However will he take it further?

Lucky you if he doesn't. 6 points and £200 if he does.

Now stop being stupid and leave it in your pocket, or buy a hands free kit.

Yes, and a ticket. I'm amazed if he didn't do you, given the publicity this is getting at the moment and the fact that people who use phones at the wheel are currently viewed as one down from child molesters.

He'd have stopped you and taken details if he was going to nick you. Verbal NIP at the roadside etc etc. You got away with it.

Or they've viewed as inconsiderate aholes that can't wait to get to their destination before they can pot a 6 word comment on Facebook. You're driving a vehicle that can kill in a split second if you're not paying attention; those that need their phones whilst driving, should have that privilege rescinded.

And don't argue "but if I'm at set of lights I can like my bezza's newest photo on instagram of them in a club toilet mirror." It's deplorable that people think this is alright. You're still in command of a vehicle, whether it's stationary or not.

Sounds like you got away with it OP, but use this fear as a lesson. It's not worth it.

Would you swear on the lifes of your kids/little bunny rabbits that you have never been on the phone in a car? We have all done it and we need to change our behaviour but step away from the high horse....

This.

Happened to me a few years ago (admitedly there wasn't as massive a focus then on using a phone when driving as there is now, howver it was still frowned upon) when collecting my daughter from a concert at Alexandra Palace; the traffic was really slow stop start so I got my phone out and went on the internet whilst every so often I'd lift my clutch up to creep forward a few feet.

I then sensed someone to my right looking at me, I looked over to see a Police van with two Policeman sitting in the front looking at me, as soon as they saw that I saw, they both burst out laughing, my face must have been a picture, one wagged his finger at me and then they just drove on.

I actually haven't. I can't explain why, but it's always been a pet peeve. My phone goes in my pocket in the car and even if I wanted to get it out, I couldn't.

And you misused that phrase. High horse would be if I had commented "I have never used my phone. I'm an upstanding citizen and it's illegal. I cannot believe you cretins used a device behind the wheel." But of course, it's easier to throw phrases like that around rather than actually make a valid point.

There isn't a excluse, and I won't do it again.
Hopefully, your right.

If he wanted to fine me, would he have not taken my details? Pulled me over to the side?

Mine sort of similar, but told me off.

Hopefully I got away with it.

Yes, you'll be fine. I know the fear though, I thought I'd been caught speeding last year doing 60 in a 50. It was only until a poster on here posted an exact picture of the van, I realised it was a traffic monitoring van made to look like a speed camera van. The sinking "oh st" feeling is horrible and for 6 points to check a text, I wouldn't risk that now; even if I did use my phone when it was 'only' 3 points.

He possibly had somewhere else to be, couldn't be bothered getting out of the car or realised that perhaps you were giving it a quick look whilst stopped. Either way, he'd have pulled you over and told you if you were in bother. Was it definitely an unmarked car? Couldn't have been a copper on his way to/from work?
