Coming out of Milton Keynes this afternoon through one of the new developments; 20 mph limit dual carriageway with a 24/7 bus lane on the inside lane and large rubber speed cushions in the outside lane.
There were several cars behind me and slowing down for each of the speed cushions didn't seem to meet with the style of driving of two of the cars following, so they undertook in the bus lane. Whatever, I will probably see you again on the M1.
Meanwhile a third dark blue Ford Focus then starts to do the same. However this time they had some snazzy blue flashing lights in the grill and an accompanying siren, and the passenger was gesturing the two undertaking cars to pull over.
They seemed to be having a nice chat as I off drove into the evening sun.

is the moral of the story don't go to milton keynes ?
Unless you like roundabouts, not a bad idea.It was just it was the second anonymous dark blue police Ford Focus I had seen in the last few days (the other was directing traffic around a broken down truck on the A14 on Thurday), so despite the often made claim of "never see any traffic police around", maybe there are more than people think, and certainly one more than the undertaking bus lane drivers thought.

I would simply ask you what the point is of building a dual carriageway, making it illegal for all users except buses to drive on the inside lane, i.e. making it effectively a single carriageway for most users, putting speed bumps on the outer lane, and implementing a 20 MPH limit on a road such as this. There were several cars behind me and slowing down for each of the speed cushions didn't seem to meet with the style of driving of two of the cars following, so they undertook in the bus lane. Whatever, I will probably see you again on the M1.

It totally defies logic in every sense of the word and positively screams out temptation to some drivers to defy the bus lane rule and take to the inside. The police then have a field day with the pickings. They would be better placed charging those who implement these systems with corporate incompetence.
There is really no point in building roads like this when you have powered vehicles travelling slower than pedal cycles and creating congestion. We need to seriously waken up in this country and remove the incompetents in the roads/planning/council departments that make decisions to spend our tax in this manner.
