I took out a DVLA direct debit in Feb '15 for my daily hack.
This was for the sole purpose of not having to worry about when my tax is due.

Fast forward to last week, I wanted to quickly check my tax status, I couldn't remember when it was supposed to be due but assumed that the direct debit would continue until I cancelled it.

My vehicle details couldn't be found on the DVLA website. Reg. & V5C numbers weren't being recognised.
I checked my bank statement & in Feb '16 I had received a "credit" from DVLA against my direct debit.
I hadn't clocked the "credit" part, just my Reg & DVLA which is the payment reference.

No further payments were being taken yikes

Basically a years worth of non payment of car tax.

I contacted DVLA on Thursday & explained the situation, to an actual human being, expecting a great deal of grief.
I was told that the car had been removed from their data base as it was no longer being used on the road (or some such wording, I can't really recall)
I told them that it had 6 months MOT & was fully insured & that I used it every day. I was told not to use the car, because it wasn't taxed. They would investigate & get back to me.

I've had a call this morning to say that there had been a system error which has been corrected & I can now tax the car. I've set up another D/D
Not a hint of having to pay the past years missing tax, no back payments, no fine, I was to "just carry on as normal"

smile

Cool story bro...etc.

Sounds like they'd flagged it as a keeper change.

Doubt it, the record would still be there, more like scrapped.

I'd missed the plate not being recognised - but scrapped still show.

Plate change?
