Just read the burger van thread, but just wanted clarification. My mot runs out soon, and car needs work, will be off the road for repairs. Across the green there are parking bays, can I sorn the vehicle and leave it there with just insurance on it. Or are parking bays classed as part of the highway ?

Thanks.

Of course they are. Park it on the grass, that's definitely not the highway hehe

The ones in your photo would be.

Thanks people. Looks like I'll have to park it elsewhere.

One of my neighbours must think it's acceptable to park an uninsured and SORN'd vehicle on the grass across from their house, been there a week and has nice grass trimming around it as the council mower had to drive around it.

Reported it last night, the fkers can use their driveway next time.

I'm not sure that will make a difference.

When I was in Uni, my student house was adjacent to a patch of dry mud/grassless land - it was enough to park maybe 8-10 cars, which local folk did. My rented house was on the same patch.

A bloke turned up one day and parked an old car next to the house - it had no MOT/Tax and the logbook was on the passenger seat, but it was locked. It stayed there for weeks, so I asked the plod one day whilst they were stood around there (rough area).

Basically, if it's not the highway, and it's council land, then there's very little you can do about it. Same thing if someone else parks on your drive! It's not in VOSA/DVLA jurisdiction, nor can the police get involved.

(I suggested to a thick accented fella (with a HIAB) one day that it had been abandoned, and he swiftly modified the condition of the passenger window and we never saw it again).
