Received an FPN through the post today. Not going to argue it or bh or moan on here unlike some - I was speeding, I got caught, end of.

Thing is, it requires me to send my licence off (for endorsement, I assume). And I'm off to Europe in a couple of weeks, where I'll need my driving licence.

I return from Europe ~5 days before the expiry of the FPN offer, so I DO (just) have time to send it off then. It's leaving it a little tight though...

But I wanted to ask:-
- How long it's taken to get licences returned for other people in the same situation?
- What alternatives I've got (if any) if I send it off and don't get it back in time?
- Any other comments?

Thanks,

Martin.

No room for that grown up attitude on here. You need to rant about the war on the motorist / scameras / should be catching real criminals / everyone else's fault but mine.

The last FPN I got I paid the fine & sent my licence off two days after the closing date of the FPN but it was still excepted. So, you should be fine sending it off when you return from Europe.

Why not call the DVLA and find out if they can take your payment but allow you to keep your licence until you return hopefully there's a little common sense that can be applied. Oh wait a minute...

Do the endorsements appear on the photocard? Didn't know that.

If you've got an address you could change to then you can do it online and *may* have 2 licences... provided the old one didn't get cut up immediately. Very quick service

I wonder why you have to send it off. It used to be the paper part that the endorsement details were written on. Surely they don't write on the plastic bit !

I would guess they only require paper licences to be returned if you still use them. There is no part of the photo ID licence that has details of points and/or endorsements.

It asks you to send the photocard - presumably so they can confirm licence number and details.
