Am I mis-understanding this bit?..A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Police will not get involved with general house maintenance issues of this nature. This appears to be an attempt at threatening the home owner into complying with the scammers request for money.

I read it as..scumbag tries to scam person A, then threatens person A to obtain money and the police wont get involved!

I think that reads as they won't get involved,as claimed by the scamming scumbags initial phone call, if her roof WAS duff.

It seems clear enough to me, the police won't force you to make and pay for repairs to your roof or property that you haven't asked for just because someone says you need it.

Indeed, the police are telling the public that anyone who tries to use the Police as a reason to undertake repairs is telling fibs, and is not to be trusted.

Though the story would have been better if ended with the police arrested the people who did it.
