Cycling and walking strategy - everyone wants urban 20s
Discussion
It's probably obvious that a report for walking and cycling wouldnt take into account the views of other road users

Even the horse people felt left out
Like the issue of cycling helmets risk compensation doesnt seem to have much credence
Surely there should only be 20s where it's safer - or are there other reasons?
Who would want a 20 where its less safe (as the stats are already showing)

I have always wondered how they judged the safety value of imposing 20mph limits- do they just look at the road with the changed limit? Or a wider area? Do the actually carry out after action reviews as a matter of course at all?
20mph limits on through routes seem likely to displace traffic to the sidestreets (even if they are also 20mph as the main route speed advantage is gone) which is not promoting safety at all.
And of course no doubt everyone wants 20mph limits outside their own house, or where they habitually walk, but not anywhere else. It is a form of reverse NIMBYism.
