Not something I'm going through thankfully, just a curiosity.

I noticed a note on a neighbours car today saying if it's not moved in 14 days it will be disposed of. Said car is parked in the visitor spaces at the block of flats I live in. It's been there for some months now, but it's not (that I'm aware) dumped - the owner lives in one of the flats and uses the visitor space as extra parking. The management company had a crackdown a few years back due to people taking the mick and they're usually not busy, so it's not really doing much harm.

So the question is, legally, can they just take his car? It's private land; end of a cul-de-sac, separated from the road by a dropped curb. However it's not their car and there are no barriers or gates to stop anyone just driving in. previous threads on here suggest that removing someone's car is not legal and is likely to land them in hot water.

Maybe depends on who's shifting it

I had a car left in the car park of an industrial unit. After about 6 weeks I informed the council and they put notices on it, gave it 14 days and then took it away, presumably to scrap.

That was the end of it.

The note was on headed paper for the management company, not the council or some other official body (they wouldn't care, private land, civil issue etc.)

If a car is on private land the land owner can remove it providing they've made reasonable attempts to contact the driver.
