Hi folks,

I was driving along in Edinburgh earlier on a 30mph dual carriageway and while I didn't give it any boot, I might have got up to 35mph on the GPS before spotting a livered van with a little camera poking out the back. I understand in more civilised parts of the country the prosecution threshold is 10% + 2mph but has anyone heard of a prosecution at 34/35mph above the border, or should I be watching the post for the next two weeks?

Cheers!

Expect a 2-4 week ban and a fine equal to 2 weeks pay. Welcome to Scotland, please drive safely.

Nah but seriously I live here, I expect Scottish vans use the same tolerance as the rest of the UK, otherwise I would be at my two dozen points by now. The only difference i believe is our sherif courts tend to be a little stricter on handing out punishments outwith FPN territory.

Is Edinburgh uncivilised?

If you were doing an actual 35mph then you might get done for that in other parts of the UK anyway so it seems academic. Just hope you were doing an actual 34mph or less and you'll be fine. Travelling well in excess of the speed limit is considered dangerous driving up here and I have heard of a scheme where they'll write you a letter telling you off if they catch you even a couple of mph over the limit but I don't think you've got any more to worry about than if you did the same in the middle of any given city in England or Wales.

Not to derail the thread but the casualties would be a damn sight lower still if they made the A9 dual carriageway for it's entire length rather than the current situation of changing from dual to single to dual again at random intervals.

Compared to Hull, no. Venice, yes.

There would be massive costs to doing that but I believe it's something that is being looked at.

Afternoons, Weekdays, no.

Saturday evening on the Royal Mile?

Pavement Pizza every few feet from rugby teams trying to drink in every bar in the area. Carnage. Yes.

Meh! Every city has problematic areas, mostly due to the tourists. The rest of Edinburgh is wonderful, give or take a few areas...

Trainspotting (apart from the opening scene) was filmed in Glasgow

*nod*

It was being shot while I was at college.
I occasionally talked to one of the guys involved in building the set (he did the baby crawling across the ceiling, for example) because we were often on the same bus into town early in the morning.

It was shot in the old WD&HO Wills tobacco factory on Alexandra Parade in Glasgow.
