Cheers for this, though around Edinburgh they don't really need them, just leave the potholes everywhere so you can't really go fast! Where does the Raod Tax go ?

bloke in article said:
"Motorists should also heed our message that it is important to drive at an appropriate speed. It's not just about observing the speed limit.

"There are many roads and many circumstances, such as near to schools, shopping areas and playgrounds, where driving at the legal speed limit may be inappropriate and unsafe."

The article doesn't say what day national anti-intelligence day is though.

At least they finally mention the statistic that the majority of all accidents happen in 30 zones.
I always do drive @ or below the limit in 30's, as for NSL's....well thats harder to judge sometimes, when you concentrate on driving the speedo can be very distracting.

Every day in the House of Commons, in Downing Street, in Whitehall, on the M25, on most of the roads PHers use, ...

Oh, was it national 'No Speeding day'? Too bad. I sat in a line of traffic doing about 100 between the Harthill and Newmains junctions at about 6.45am this morning and most days this week.

Local Radio in Glasgow has had some truly stomach churning adverts on over the recent month with various scenarios, Rep late for an Appointment, Young lad accrued six points, some awful woman who is embarassed to tell anyone she got caught speeding. Buy a Road Angel!

We really have got to get away from people being embarrassed about getting a speeding ticket. It's just what the loonies want - to make speeding socially unacceptable like drink driving is.

I reckon that most people, far from being embarrassed, just get hacked off when that NIP comes through the door. The only embarrassing time i've had whilst speeding was when being caught by a TrafPol and given a telling off.

Has anyone read the articles this morning's papers about speeding in Scotland? Over 300 killed on roads in Scotland last year, despite massive increase in speeding tickets, Exec claims this is a success for scameras!!
I read the Heralds and it quotes some Isobel Brydie, Chairwoman of Scottish Campaign against Irresponsible drivers, "There are 300 people alive today who will not be alive this time next year purely because of drivers driving at excess speed."
So drink drivers, car thiefs, drugged drivers, vehicles unfit for the road will have no effect on road safety at all then?
Might as well get tanked up steal an old banger and do some stunts in the school playground then.
Sorry about the rant but its even put me off my coffee, and this 10000 word dissertation that Im supposed to be writing.

Isobel Brydie is the woman who made the famous 'driving at 150mph is akin to firing a shotgun in a crowded street' claim IIRC. Ill informed doesn't even begin to cover it.

Just heard on the radio as well that 300 drivers have been caught already as part of Strathclyde's 'blitz on speeding drivers'.

Glad I am in the house just moaning about it then.

Must say Strathclyde Traff police do generally seem to be pretty decent. I often see them on the M77 where it is a 50/60 and I will be doing 70 (always empty when Im on it). But they did shoot past me in a dark grey Octavia vRs to nab a van last week, was like watching Police Camera Action.

I got caught on the M77 too.

72 in a 50 zone. Thing is it looks like a motorway (albeit with 2 lanes and a hard shoulder).

Good thing they didn't catch me coming down the hill from Mearns doing 92mph....

Does anyone drive with both feet on the throttle? No wonder there are so many crashes.

I used to drive an old transit van with the big overhead cab on it for work. even though it was just around the Gyle area and the limit was 40 if you wanted to reach that speed it took one foot on the accelerator and one out the door pushing fred flintstone style!

Pretty much word for word what the Transport 2000 hessian begarbed lentil munchers state...

and get this........... from their illustrious weesite

"For every 1mph increase in a driver`s speed, the chances of being involved in a crash increase by 5 per cent. Source: Transport Research Laboratory"

So therefore if I drive at 70 rather than 60 on a dual carriageway I'm 62%more likely to crash. Yep. And if I drive at (draw breath of horror) 75mph I'm therefore twice as likely to crash as at 60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi every one i have been doing this for some time and it`s not speed that kills it`s the bad driving if you have a car or bike that dose 100 + miles an hour well it won`t kill you but if someone driving along at 50 and pulls out in front of you well this just might! you see you get the car or truck driver that looks in his mirror (or not) and still pulls out in front of you and if you get upset they just smile so we have to try and educate the drivers but it`s all to late! ((sorry you missed the good times))

just have a track day and have fun
