Hi

For the past 7 years someone has been keying SUV's on my street. Not once but continually, mines been keyed 17 times. My neighbour's a similar amount. Other cars in the immediate area have also been keyed. All the marks are near identical, we're talking £000's of damage, mine alone has been quoted at £4k to repair. All this has been reported to the police on many occasions.

I had cctv installed a few weeks ago and I've now got a recording of the guy keying my car. I'm going to give the footage to the police and hopefully we'll be able to prosecute him.

My question is, will we be able to prosecute him for more than just the one act of keying he's be caught doing? We could provide dozens of photos of near identical key marks on other SUV's on the street. Also what, if successfully prosecuted, would be his punishment?

Thanks,

P

Presumably all of the other regular cars have been unscathed?

Guess the Chelsea tractor school run brigade finally broke the man.

In a nutshell... no. You have proof he keyed your car.
You have proof that other cars have been keyed. What you don't have is evidence that those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Perhaps it's worth waiting to catch him a few more times then?

All damaged car owners get together, and jointly claim damages. If he won't pay up, bankrupt him.

Thread disappoints.

I was hoping you were going to say you'd physically caught the mouth breathing scum and kicked seven shades of st out of him.

I would try and see if its a regular time, get more recordings of him, then wait for him at the next time and catch in the act and call 999. Will give a history of the criminal damage and caught red handed which will make it easier for the police/cps. Does your cctv cover other cars?

It's all very depressing to be honest. The irony is if I drove a 600bhp supercar it would have remained untouched!

keying cars.... boils my piss....
A 61 year old business guy is doing it?
I'd be inclined to let his business know as well as letting the Bib know...
I'd while away some happy hours 'imaging' an actual surprise confrontation...
'two wrongs' and all that, but I'd want to know where he lives too...
So much mileage for the 'dish best served cold'.

if ever frozen sausages should be used, this would be it hehe

I don't understand why an older chap would do such a thing???

Then again, I find many vandals are middle or older people. Idiots the lot of them. Inc the younger who do it too.

I do indeed know where he lives but I won't post any footage. I'd like to make sure this is done a correctly as possible.

I know all about his business's (some open to review online).

Some people really dislike SUVs. hehe

If the forensics people have been taking evidence from the previous vandalism incidents then hopefully they can prove the MO/tools used. I know from speaking to the forensics people who came round for my break in they were very keen to get anything with tool marks on them so they could tie multiple burglaries together.

very odd that he has an SUV orientated vendetta, is there a common denominator such as anti social driving or parking?

I guess you couldn't prosecute for previous offences without evidence. However - I wonder if he would admit to any of the previous damage when questioned by police...
I'd expect there may be more chance of him owning up to other offences than a young lying teenage scumbag.

yes potentially if the police ask him to explain the other incidents which match the offence in question. He may cough and they would taken into consideration as guilty plea and a very happy copper who can dispose of multiple crimes as resolved with conviction
