Since when is this no longer endorsable?

There is an event on at a school near me today and the parking is mental - on zig-zags (outside permitted times), in the bus stop, on corners, over junctions.

I phoned the local police non-emergency number and they couldn't have been less interested. Told me it was a council issue and nothing to do with them.

If you are going the safety angle this is way worse than doing 35mph in a quiet 30 zone but the cops would more than likely rub their hands with glee to do you for the speed.

Happens all the time in my high street. Mainly prats pulling up for a take away, even saw a minibus full of plod parked on them one day as they where in getting food. It always used to be 3 points, and yes it is dangerous, one of the few traffic laws I think should be strongly enforced, there should be no excuses.

When I said to the person on the phone I thought it was an endorsable offence and givien there were six plus cars on zig-zags they should maybe send someone round they asked their supervisor who confirmed it was a council issue and nothing to do with the police.

Seems mad as unlike some speed limits the placement of zig-zags is nearly always understandable and limited to quite short, but critical areas.

Zig Zags outside of schools are enforced by the council. Zig zags at crossings are enforced by Police

Edit - Appears some can be enforced by the Police.

Probably a difference between the yellow zigzags outside schools and the white ones on pedestrian crossings.

This is one of my favourites, the bus stop has been positioned on the zigzag, genius! Imagine the blind spots when a bus has stopped.

The OP mentions parking on zig-zags "outside permitted hours" which implies that it's yellow zig zags outside a school. White zig-zags at crossings don't have permitted hours - they apply 24/7. Parking on yellow zig zags has never been endorseable, and in fact there may not be an enforceable parking restriction at all depending on what other signage is about.

Correct and my mistake for not knowing the yellow ones are not endorsable. Don't know what the point of the zig-zags is then as they seem to be the same as solid yellows?

It's possible for councils to also enforce crossing zig-zags as a PCN (non-endorsable obviously) where it has been devolved to them.

White zigzags protecting a crossing are endorsable by the police (3 shiny points and a big fine), and enforceable by us council CEOs (smaller fine)

Yellow zigzags outside schools are down to the CEOs, and can only be enforced when backed up by a TRO.

Wow, every day's a skool day. I'd never even noticed they came in different colours, just assumed that it was a PC30 endorsement and 3 points.

That is permissible. Ludicrous., isn't it? Still, a bus does not cause much of a blind spot, does it?

Essex badlands is a nightmare for this.
I'm a bus driver and see it everyday.

I have emailed/twitter/facebook/written to the police, diddly squat done.

Of course technically it is not on the zig zag, so bus drivers are allowed to stop. It's just where the zigzag should be, if it had not been shortened to make room for a bus stop. So that's OK then!

I think I will paint over the 20mph signs near me so that I can drive at 30mph. About as logical. And less dangerous.

Used to process there every time we saw them. Probationer cops cut their traffic process teeth on doing drivers for parking on zig zags.

People stopping on white zigzags are just idiots and deserve the 3 points.

bigger problem round my way is moronic school run mums blocking yellow zig zags. In fact I destest the entire "school run mum" disease infecting our society. Just because your kid is important to you doesn't mean the highway code no longer applies and you can do what you want in the name of picking up your kids.

Id all be for councils to have those cctv ticketing cars patrolling outside EVERY school. You could make a absolute kiling in fines and the money could be used for something sensible, all paid for by inconsiderate and selfish parents. Win win.

I wish ours did it with a CCTV car, I absolutely hate being near a school at kicking out time, the abuse we get when politely asking parents not to park on yellow zigzags, bus stops and double yellow lines is absurd. Worse bit is, you move someone and the space is immediately filled by another car, while you are stood there and trust me, we are not invisible!

And should you actually manage to get a ticket on a car....

These days a photo should be enough for parking infringements.
