Spotted at Oxford Services on the M40 this evening :

Reminds me of that "Get 'em hooked while they're young - Junior Beer" Viz advert.

What kind of sick brainwashing shit is this - "cameras are good, kids, m'kay?"

Edit: notice the way the "car" has braked heavily for the camera and the eyes are staring at the camera - obviously a good advert for all round observation (any cars behind? who cares, I don't want a ticket)

My solution? a couple of tyres and a gallon of unleaded

This in no way constitutes a violent threat, yada yada yada

Note the fact that the front tyres have locked up as well.

That's safe.

It's quite a cute looking car, maybe the kids will end up feeling sorry for it...

Locked up, looks like they've melted!

I'm not sure whether to laugh at it or to cry at the amount "safety cameras" have twisted people's perceptions of safety on the roads

I saw today they are putting a new limit on the Warwick Road near Warwick, and the NSL signs at the end have a panel underneath that, in days gone by, would have said "Thank you for driving safely/carefully", but actually say "Thank you for driving slowly". It implies to me that you can be brushing your hair, playing with the stereo, looking at the speedo, and generally not paying attention, but as long as the orange needle doesn't go above the number on the sign you're A-OK

Maybe this should go in SP&L to make a serious point?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that

(Btw does anyone else see the irony in a charging a quid for a crappy snapshot - the alternative message? Cameras cost you dear)

How come our kids are being told not to give out personal info to strangers yet its fine to have their pictures taken and provide their names and adresses to the company running this machine.

I hope the company is careful with their database!

I remember reading about them in Steve Cropley's column in Autocar a few months ago but couldn't find a photo. Who makes these things? I bet they're endorsed by our lovely government too

There's one of these in our local shopping centre in Wiltshire (which is strange, becaus I have never spotted a camera in our area.) Although the car is a more respectable yellow.

I'll see if I can get the details off it.

I was on the Warwick road last night and the limit os going to be 40mph from just before the Shell petrol station to just before the Waterman Pub IIRC. I guess it's due to the large housing estate at Hatton Park, and the local residents kicking up a fuss about cars and bikes travelling at speed on that road.

They have dumbed down the NSL near my house on the other side of Warwick to a 50, with calls for it to be further reduced by meddling "do-gooders". There have been no accidents on this particular stretch of road in the last decade, so clearly it's really dangerous! Idiots!

Once again, we see the gov.t dumbing good drivers down and enforcing their "state of mediocrity" cr4p upon us. Time for a change methinks.

Yep, that bit of road is mostly dead straight, no houses on or near road, mini roundabouts leading off to them, in fact there's a good overtaking straight just north of the A46 roundabout. Edited to say, actually I think this will be back in the NSL limit if it stops at the Shell...

I drove up and down the road 3 times yesterday, and twice was forced to piddle along at 45 by numpties (who carried along at the same speed through the Chadwick End 40 limit ) - the other time was at about 8.30pm when all the numpties were tucked safely up in bed with their cocoa.

Like you I can't remember any accidents on that stretch of road.

What is it going to take to get the idiots in government / road planning / numpties who campaign for this sort of useless uninformed tripe to actually realise that they are doing NOTHING for road safety??

Tempted to email Warwick council or whoever is in charge, not that it would make a blind bit of difference...

(Oh, and apparently the new owners of the Waterman are anti-bike so that is another decent pub turned into some soft furnishing, gourmet food, wicker furnitured crap hole like the Orange Tree They used to have huge bike meetings there on Wednesday(?) evenings, now wil be full of junior execs regaling each other with fascinating tales of how they were rude to somebody in tech support, etc. )

NCOT,

I was a regular at the Waterman on a Wednesday and was on my bike last night. Seems that the Falcon is going to be doing the bike business this summer then!

Warwick DC are apparently in favour of the lower limits, according to the local rags, so I guess that whilst complaining to them may give us an avenue to vent our collective spleen, the result will be the same, i.e lower limits.

BTW, the Knowle road from Hatton, through Wroxhall and Chadwick End is one of my faves! Not that I'd ever speed on it, obviously! LOL

A 4-pack to the first one sitting there holding a car tyre and petrol can.

Balaclavas not allowed as it may cause problems identifying the winner...

I have an old GSD2 in the garage and I'm sure I can get a petrol can from somewhere! Next time I am up the M40 (within the next month or so) I will do it!

(That is, get my pic, I draw the line at torching it )
