Warranty On Main Dealer Works
Discussion
Ok so had the VVT on my zafira fixed by a vauxhall main dealer 18 months ago.
This involved new camshaft pulley/sprockets cambelt oil filter and both the oil actuating soliniod valves replacing as the car wasn't right after they gave it back and had to go to another vauxhall dealer to sort. Bill was after the damage dthe cam cover as well £869! With vx masterfit club discount.
I believe masterfit vauxhall offer a 12 month warranty on the parts.
18 Months later and 5-6k its gone again.
Do i have any recourse?
Is it worth a legal letter?

First question is-did you pay for the work in full or a portion of it? Or was it carried out under the manufacturer's warranty? This involved new camshaft pulley/sprockets cambelt oil filter and both the oil actuating soliniod valves replacing as the car wasn't right after they gave it back and had to go to another vauxhall dealer to sort. Paid for in full.
We had issues and it went back and they advised I drive the car with warning lights. They had or back a day later to be redone and one soliniod was replaced by the garage. They had it for two weeks the second time. I wasn't happy and Vauxhall uk paid for the engine to be flushed and free oil and filter. That seemed to sort the issue and this was done by another Vauxhall dealer 30 miles away.
No warrany car is out of warranty.

I would speak with Vauxhall customer services and raise a case with them-it would be them covering the cost rather than the dealership so should be your first point of call. On the face of it a replacement part re-failing after 18 months does seem unreasonable unless there is an undiagnosed cause, not sure what it could be though!
I would have to hand proof of servicing using the correct oils as they will almost certainly ask for this.
When I was in the trade I did see a customer use European Directive 1999/44/EC as leverage to get the manufacturer to pay for a part which had failed after the 12 month warranty had expired. It's a bit of a grey area as our own Consumer Rights Act provides similar protection but it may be worth a look.

Then it was goodwill by the manufacturer. A European directive is just that - a directive to all member states - that is then enshrined in local country law as appropriate.
