Well, the adviser won't be paying your court fees. The only thing you should ignore is some of the truly awful advice given above.
Assuming this is a private ticket, there's no such thing as "right" or "wrong". Don't ignore the ticket, and yes, in theory you could be taken to court - but follow the right advice and it should not get that far.
99% of the time, the companies that issue these tickets don't bother with niceties like complying with the law, and just rely on intimidation by imitating council PCNs and using threats of CCJs. ParkingEye withdrew their charge when I appealed to POPLA on a few generic points (nothing to do with the circumstances of the alleged overstay) that should be bread and butter if they'd ever actually had a case against me*, and S11Steve on here regularly gets these cancelled as part of his job.
You need to know how to deal with it - and whilst you should get advice from somewhere like Moneysavingexpert, you should ignore their official article and go straight to their private parking forums. Read the sticky threads there, find out the best approach for dealing with the company that issued your ticket, and learn the magic words that should make this go away.
(* Before the hand-wringing starts - I was not the driver, and the driver didn't know they'd allegedly overstayed until the Notice to Keeper arrived)

You do realise that their very existence is because of selfish and arrogant drivers. Not one single PPC forces any driver to park where they shouldn't or for longer than they should.

Its an arbituary term and condition dreamt up by the parking company since the government banned clamping. They are so stupid in general they cant even follow the legislation intended for their industry. Not one single PPC forces any driver to park where they shouldn't or for longer than they should.
Is giving someone a parking ticket on their own driveway or allocated parking space in a gated car park due to selfish and arrogant drivers?

I seem to recall that you have problems with selfish drivers taking your or your companies parking slots, fair enough. Not one single PPC forces any driver to park where they shouldn't or for longer than they should.
Many of these parking firms are simply bandits tho. There are many examples here, on Pepipoo and other forums of parking firms taking advantage of innocent motorists. For example how many times do people get tickets because the cameras got them entering a car park but not leaving?

Or entering twice in the day but somehow only picks 1st entry and 2nd exit, or wardens doctoring photographs to claim a car parked for 7 hours or ticketing on public land or ticketing for stopping on the road, or entering the wrong the registration number in error. the list could be endlessMany of these parking firms are simply bandits tho. I am not a fan of these companies and strangely their isnt a complete meltdown in parking when they arent on a site either.
PS anyone parking in a disabled space is an ar5ehole

You do realise that their very existence is because of selfish and arrogant drivers. In it's zeal to outlaw rogue clampers the government allowed itself to be duped wholesale by the industry. The bandits simply swapped their greasy overalls for suits.

That's as maybe but given the number of PPCs which are run by ex-clampers who are incapable of drafting contracts correctly or are unable to comply with the legislative framework they are expected to work within then it is hardy a surprise that the reputation of the sector is so low. At least Mr Turpin had the decency to wear a mask. The entire business model in most cases is structured on a flawed base. A revenue stream/bottom line which depends entirely on issuing as many PCNs as possible has b
r all to do with genuine parking management.PurpleMoonlight said:

I'll reiterate my last post. ParkingEye, one of the biggest and supposedly most professional "car park management"
companies, couldn't be bothered contesting when I raised entirely generic appeal points at POPLA. Each of my appeal points would apply to anyone using that particular car park, and most of them would have applied at every car park "managed" by ParkingEye. If they had any right to the money they were demanding, it would have been an easy win for them. They don't even think their own business is justifiable, so why do you continually defend them?bad company said:

Until the law changes to kick the inconsiderate parkers in the wallet, I fail to see the merit in complaining about the parking - especially when the complainant admits that they knowingly broke the rules.
Its not hard for the majority of people to avoid any contact with them.
Someone needs a better reason, that 'unlawful' or 'excessive' before I start to give a monkeys about other peoples lack of care, attention or (in some isolated cases) deliberate actions.

Ah that's OK then, as long as people are being selfish and arrogant (but completely within the law) it's also acceptable for predatory PPCs to operate with little regard to the law, with their sole income derived from extorting money by intentionally misleading motorists, imitating authority, and threatening CCJs.

so I don't know why you're bothered about whether the driver overstayed.I got a rather hilarious letter from them after their withdrawal suggesting that they'd cancelled the ticket as a "goodwill gesture". Goodwill my arse - I called their bluff and they folded before it cost them more money.

I have no idea. The driver has no idea. And it really doesn't matter. Neither I, nor the driver, was going to hand over money for the motoring equivalent of a Nigerian e-mail scam. Since ParkingEye are incapable of following the law, the amount they are legally entitled to is precisely zero, so why would/should I have paid them?
