Can someone give me a definitive answer?

For road use: Is it illegal to fit test pipes to something like a Ferrari 348 from say 1992? If they are declared to your insurer?

I heard that cars pre 1995 can be legally decatted if insurer allows? But post 1994 cars cannot.......??

Thanks

But if a grey area in the law. Although I believe it's now changed again, something like if a cat was fitted when the car was new, it has to have one fitted. Saying that, never heard of anyone being pulled over by the plod for a decat though

It's illegal as it comes under constructions and use regulations (can't remember which one)
But it was something along the lines of, if you make a modification to the vehicle which changes the emissions so that it no longer meets the standards set when it was produced, then it's an offence.

What happens if the car was imported and didn't meet the UK standards when new?

might go through MOT depends on the tester.

I have seen many a car pass that shouldn't.

One of our staff has an old A2 Audi with every warning light on the dash but gets it mot;d at a back water garage.

Not sure if it's changed now, few years back if there wasn't an equivalent uk approved model, then the car would have the basic emissions test. A friends Toyota Glanza has this type of test as there's no UK version so passes with flying colours despite being decatted
