In short :

Rented car via intermediary website from Italian company with decent feedback

Declined £££ excess cover as I have my own yearly policy from UK company often praised on here

Car sustained damage in my care, no argument

Company billed me 500 EU but have yet to supply required invoice for work actually completed which I need to claim from my annual car hire policy

Have tried several further times, no joy

Suggestions welcome on where to go next for most efficient result

Cheers!

A quick call to your credit card provider to mark it as a disputed transaction....your invoice will arrive in 3,2,1.

The work's not been done, just an invoice, to you, raised??

However, if they’re receiving grief from their CC company, I'm pretty sure the necessary PDF will arrive toot sweet.

For an easy life, I normally pay for the CDW with the hire firm. Might be a bit more expensive but avoids hassle.

Typically this is the first time I haven't

Weeks insurance taken out independently was 24 quid, taking it at the airport would have easily been more than the cost of a nice meal and bundling it with my online rental somewhere between the two.

The reason I went alone was that the. Co. UK comparison site I usually use didn't actually give me full walk away waiver but would have sold me a policy by AXA leaving me exactly where I am now

Thanks for the advice, have spoken to credit card who were v helpful

which company did you rent from? I can try to get you a better contact. The problem is, it's peak season, so unless the damage made it completely unrentable, they'll probably not have fixed it yet.

Will they even fix it?
In Italy (certainly in Campania) the norm is to get one's insurance pay-out, do the bare minimum to make the car driveable, then pocket the difference because the car will only get smashed up again.

Surely they've just charged you the excess which would be standard procedure as per their terms and conditions. They won't give you an invoice for the repairs because you're not paying for them, just the excess.

OP update:

Raised a dispute with credit card as advised and received contact today from rental people

Damage was actually a stone chip for which they're going to replace the whole windscreen, allegedly........

Anyway a workshop invoice will be on its way to me soon so alls well as far as I'm concerned

Learning points for me is to go nuclear sooner if it ever happens again, that third party rental cover is cheap and effective as long as the hirer plays ball and that a major rental comparison site no longer sells full walk away waiver but a product identical to mine but at a higher price

Cheers

I used to do this up until a couple of years ago when I hired a car in Spain, paid the usual full CDW (Oh yes sir, no excess to pay with the premium CDW) job.

A lorry reversed into the front wing whilst it was parked and drove off (didn't see it happen but the height of the damage on the car was consistent with the tailgate of a delivery lorry I had seen nearby). Rang the company straight away and they said 'no problem we'll sort it out when you return it' . I was then met with a bill for 300 euros, obviously I pointed out their mistake, I had the highest level CDW policy but no , this wasn't an excess, this was for reimbursement for the time the car would be off the road. Had to pay it and still livid thinking about it.

From then on I have used 3rd party excess waiver suppliers, it's been a lot cheaper and I have learned my lesson about paying on credit card.

A hire car company that sounds like Mavis tried to bill me £250 for leaving a plastic bag and a small amount of sand in the car when I returned it.

I complained that the charge was ridiculous and was met with "we have already charged your credit card"

Reported it to Amex as a disputed charge and then complained via twitter - the hire company cancelled the charges in the end.

That's how I know to dispute the claim via credit card

Invoice received and passed to insurance so Im sorted

Of course the question is did they really replace a windscreen for a small stone chip but thats an issue for the insurance company and thankfully not me

Thanks again
