Advice on Speed van on bridge
Discussion
Given we are in austere times maybe Plod should buy some cardboard cut-out vans & park them on all motorway over-bridges as a speed deterrent.
When supplied with a white company Vauxhall Carlton if I ever parked alone in a lay-by or at right angles to the road, perhaps in a defunct farm entrance to make a phone call or take a nap it was amusing to se cars slow up as they passed by. Being dressed in white shirt & tie no doubt I was being mistaken for Plod. I especially recall doing so beside the southbound the dual-carriageway that leads from Kidderminster to the M5. In a very brief moment of juvenile wickedness I toyed with the idea of fitting a second interior mirror & a roof aerial.

When seeing a speed camera on any bridge OP, my advice would be to SLOW DOWN,
Next question?

But if you're 'on' the limit you can relax & not keep bellyaching about every parked car or which van, what van & is it Plod. Next question?

While you're checking out every motorway bridge as you belt along at over the limit that grey anonymous Skoda behind you may be far more relevant to the cleanliness of your licence.
I the end you're going to lose out.

That should be an offence, along with parking white vans on overbridges and riding motorbikes wearing POLITE vests.surveyor_101 said:

I suspect it was spotted too late, hence the OP posting on here hoping not to get a ticket.Next question?

I live about 3 miles from this bridge. It's situated at the top of a hill & just past a corner. He's aimed at the traffic approaching as per the pic; the reason for his position is that he can sight people as they round the corner when their eyes are rightly on the road & not looking up at a bridge.
This used to be a popular spot (and the bridge just beyond for aiming down the other carriageway but yesterday was the first time I've seen them there for quite a few years. It used to be flagged up on the camera database on the TomTom but fell off a while ago, to be replaced by the van on the J2 bridge.
Sneaky feckers...

This M40 J2 van can be really sneaky.
There are two bridges at the junction.plus a bridge further east on a nice straight "fast" stretch of the motorway.
All three bridges are used.
As said above there is a slight hill east bound and sometimes the van is on the 2nd bridge shooting back west underneath the first bridge. He sees your nose before you can see the van.
To counteract this I always come through in lane 1 given that the motorway is 4 lanes at that point and I am assuming that the van is concentrating on the outside lanes.
As also said above see bridge think van and yes I am paranoid.

If a case went to court, a good defence solicitor could call expert witnesses to express the opinion that the angle of elevation could lead to various errors
And the court's expert witness would then counter that any inaccuracy caused by the elevation would reduce the speed measured ( cosine effect). You would then be found guilty and have to pay for your solicitor, your expert and the court's expert
