Asking for a mate,

My friend sometimes uses the m25 and notices the speed cameras never work even when he sees people pass him while he's doing 80 mph so in the early hours of this morning, around 2am, he was in a rush and went up to 130 mph and not a single camera flashed, there was a variable speed limit at some point which he slowed down to the 50 speed limit and someone must have passed him doing 70 and still no flash, does anybody have any idea how they work?

The variable ones work. My Mrs got a NIP for 57 in a 50 near Heathrow a few months ago.

If there are HADECS 2 units on there, I don't think they flash

None of them flashed though, the part of the M25 he was on was 5 lanes and mostly empty, bar a few cars/lorries in the left hand lane doing the speed limit.

The gantry cameras at Heathrow are not active, but the HADECS cameras elsewhere are very active judging by the amount of S172 notes our rental fleet receives.

There may have been traffic cops on the bridges with old fashioned eye ball mark one

Some cameras on the M6 have signs on the lamp post saying "Camera not in operation"

They were all gantry cameras, not sure if they are even there, there's just road markings on the road and a few signs, None of those ones on the side that you can easily see, like the average speed check ones.

In addition to the speed cameras, they also probably have surveillance cameras wired to the control room, so they may have observed him, and added his reg number to their computer.
They may watch out for him on the ANPR cameras now

About 18 months ago I was flashed by a yellow one positioned to the left of the gantry between J2 and J3.

Luckily nothing ever came of it.

Could he lose his license though? It's not like he was maxing out a v reg 323i with 150k miles on the clock with 4 different budget tyres with 2 months left on the MOT at 3 pm
