Blue lights pulled me over doing 100mph on the A40
Discussion
It's been more than a month since I was pulled over by a police car on the A40 (near Uxbridge/Hillingdon). The section I drove through was 70mph and they were on a bridge -soon after the bridge the limit reduces to 60mph. I am not sure if I was caught in the 60 section or the 70 section. I was following a car doing 55ish and as he moved I stepped on it
They pulled me over and took my details etc and gave me the Met Police slip and told me I would get something in the post. So far nothing has turned up - been 6 weeks.
When can I expect to see something come through?
I was shown no videos or images however they showed me their gun which said exactly 100.00 MPH! Is this even possible? My wife was with me and swears that it did not feel like I was doing 100 mph when I was pulled. There are 6 digits on the gun - why not 99.6, 101.2, 100.4 how can it be exactly 100.00 - I find this pretty strange?
So what am I looking at - a Ban, a fine, points - all or a combo and is it worthwhile getting a solicitor or just pleading guilty and going to court to say sorry etc and take it on the chin
I don't really need my licence for my job as such but I do need it to look after my elderly parents who I regularly take to hospital appointments and pick and drop my kids who go to school 12 miles away (wife travels a lot on work so it's usually me doing this).
Thoughts welcome, thanks!

It is indeed possible you were doing 100.00 to 2 decimal places. Bit of a fluke but possible.
I filled up with diesel the other day and when it clicked off, I looked at the display and had put in £34.00. When I got home and checked my payment slip it said £34.01.
100.00 is just as likely as 100.01 or 99.99 so it's not even a fluke, it's just a number.
100/70 is too fast for a £100 fixed penalty with 3 points. Very likely that court proceedings will be commenced. Proceedings must be commenced within 6 months of the index offence.
The court has the power to ban you for any length or endorse your licence with 3-6 penalty points. The court can not do both.
The Sentencing Council guideline suggests a ban of 7-28 days or 4-6 points for speeds of 91-100 mph inclusive.
In due course, you will likely get a Single Justice Procedure Notice.
Initially, you will have a choice about attending in person. It may be foolish to attend court and give them the option to ban when you can deal with it online / by post and not get a ban. If they are considering a ban then you will be informed and required to attend court. At that stage, if you don't have it already, then you should get professional help.
The fine is based on your net weekly income. Rule of thumb is that's the starting point less up to one-third for an early guilty plea.

I got caught doing a similar speed on a motorway, invited to the back of an unmarked car, shown the video of me doing 102-104mph (having slowed somewhat) and told in no uncertain terms to expect a summons.
6 months came and went - didn't hear a thing. Our resident legal expert assures me I won't hear anything now.
Therefore some do slip through the net. It's probably only one in a million, but don't give up hope

The chances of it being exactly 100.00 must be a million to one!

Say your car has a top speed of 150 mph and you won't get stopped for <70 mph, that's an 80 mph range, in that 80 mph range there's 80 x 100 2 decimal point increments, i.e 8,000 and 100.00 mph is one of those 8,000, so less than 10,000 to one.
Practically speaking however the OP's speed was probably only in a range of ~10 mph (95-105) so the chance of 100.00 is around 1,000 to 1.

If you appeared to be regular law abiding people it is likely that they will do no more with it, actually
Quite the opposite I would say. If you have a clean record they may think this is their one chance to get you so make the most of it. Much easier than trying to fine a scrote with false details and his solicitor on speed dial.Mammasaid said:

You clearly didn't spot the wink, nor are you a fan of The Simpsons.
