just caught the tail end of one of those motorway police type programmes.

in the summary, the narrator said words to the effect that "the CPS offered no evidence in the case of the 2 men stopped with 10 kilos of class A drugs hidden in the boot of the car"

genuine question - why might that be the case ? could they have denied knowledge and, in the absence of forensics, low probability of prosecution ?

regards
paul

Probably - if they both stuck to their guns and denied any knowledge of the drugs and there was no forensic link between them and the packaging. Just say you let others use the car occasionally and decide not name them - Police are very unlikely to proceed

Possibly some procedural issues in the investigation meaning the necessary evidence couldn't be used?

they most likely grassed someone further up the ladder with a result - hence no charge to them

It's a 'sign of the times' I'm afraid. The powers that be are quite OK with changing the law so if you speed you have to name the guilty party (or be prosecuted yourself) or if the car you are the RK for is parked incorrectly you can be 'fined' when not the 'miscreant' driver, but huge amounts of hard drugs found in your car and, oh no, not so serious to society at all. Or could it possibly be that it is just not such a cash cow.

We, the general public, are being inexorably taken for mugs and we deserve it to some degree as a) we vote these people into power to make these laws; and b) we do nothing about it but accept this type of crazy situation.

Which proves the age old adage, say nothing. Anyone who does deserves everything they get.

The amount wont matter - if possession cant be attributed - then possession isn't made out
