At home, we have some neighbours who must fly planes for a living, as when it comes to parking up at night they require the use of a landing strip and plenty of space to get out.

The cars are a volvo and a corsa, not the biggest ones by any stretch of the imagination - but they manage to use the space of four cars to park two into (by leaving gaps that are *just* too small to park a normal car in).

I'm going to be a habitual pain in the rectum by knocking on their door and telling them to shift their cars so I can at least park outside my own house rather than way down the road, but if they don't get the hint that way, what can be done? Anything 'legally'?

Wait until they go away, then get a can of white spray paint, and mark out some parking bays...

try the nice approach, and just ask them to take up less space, it will gain more response.

if you want a stubborn response, jam your car in regardless leaving 3mm between front and rear bumbers, so they have to come and ask YOU to move

stooz - I've done that before and they did come knocking!! it felt so fulfilling

unfortunately, they've now started parked just close enough as to cause any parking maneuver to be unfeasable - even if the car was equipped with castors and could be slid straight in from parallel!

I'm tempted to mark out parking bays mind!!

Perhaps they're just not very good at parking? If you're friendly with them, perhaps organise something which makes it easier for them to park?

I don't know, perhaps paint a small blob on the pavement that they can line their car up against, or even politely show them how to correctly parallel park.

Or even just the extemely simple tip of opening the drivers door and looking back, to see how much room there is.

I used to have the same problem and in the end I just blocked them in,if they wanted to get out they had to ask.If they complain you are blocking them you can then tell them you would not have to if they parked properly....

There is a guy here at work that has parked more or less diagonal in a space.

I have parked correctly and so has the car next to him.

In order to get out, he has to wait for one, or both of us to move. Now he is an early finisher and I am a late finished

Bad parking is yet another sign of "F**K You" culture here in the glamourous UK

I made up some stickers on the PC a couple of years ago, using the sticky-backed paper that will go through a laser printer - they're an A4 sheet that simply reads "Selfishly Parked" in large letters. (I wanted to make them ruder, but my wife forbade it.)

I just stick them on the windscreen in front of the driver. They're pigs to get off.

Connect a set of chain blocks between the two offending cars towing eyes and start winching. The car with the least effective handbrake will move towards the other and leave you a space behind it.

I've got a set available if you want to borrow them.

byff - that is such an appealing idea!!

I'm going to have a word with them if they keep parking the way they do, I'll see if I can get some covert photos to demonstrate the problem...

GoJacks are really handy to move Selfish parkers into the middle of the street and leave them there.

I don't think that this is the best way to procede. It will all just degenerate.

Is it the sort of road that you coudl get bays marked out on? That will probably help by pointing out what sort of space a car should fit in.

Better still paint your own bays.

Where they are outside of your designated bays, just paint over their cars!

I had a neighbour who habitually parked his £1.50 shitheap accross my driveway. So I rolled it onto its roof. He was fookin livid. You should have seen his face when i pulled out my wallet and gave him £30 and said "there that should cover it" He has never parked there since.

I read this thread just to see your suggestion.

I once moved one into the middle of the road from outside my drive, as I was on my way to holiday in Scotland, using trolley jacks.
It was gone a fortnight later.
