M1 Southbound 'gang' holding up traffic.
Discussion
Late this afternoon it looked like a 'gang' of six or so quad bikes and dirt bikes were holding up traffic southbound on the M1. Doing wheelies, not letting any other traffic pass and keeping the speed sub 60.
Anyone else hear about how this?
Then after many miles they got off and went up over a flyover where a 4x4 traffic vehicle was flashing yellow lights... not police! I presume to carry on their merry way with no repercussions?!?!?!

Seems to be a way of life these days. A few weeks ago I was caught up in traffic on the A3 by Cobham - the cause? Two gypsie donkey carts racing at 30mph in the outside lanes, with a couple of 4x4s blocking the rear. I joined the cars overtaking them on the hard shoulder - but I wonder who would have been prosecuted?
Similarly in my town centre there are a group of feral kids who ride around on bicycles/mopeds (depending on age), doing wheelies in the middle of the road and riding the mopeds without numberplates or helmets. They know they're untouchable. Very annoying when they decide to piss about at 8am in the road and cause all ends of congestion - they also know they're being pricks but seem to thrive off annoying other people with jobs/a future.

I saw a gang of quad bikers doing this on the M6 around 2 months ago.
Now with regards to the kids on scramblers, this is simply getting out of control.
Only last night a gang of about 8-12 pulled onto an island in front of me and proceeded to wheelie in and out of stationary traffic that was filtering off the other side.
They all had no helmets or nuberplates and the eldest could only have been 14.
Where are they getting the money from for such machines?
My friend is a copper and he said they've lost the battle with them - it's now simply a case of trying to herd them out the area, hoping they don't come back for a few days.
U.K. Bikelife on Instagram gives many examples of their terrible wrekless riding.

Until the Gov change legislation there's nothing that can be done. If a Police driver gives chase and the little darlings fall off and hurt themselves, we're in court for dangerous driving or worse.
The Police Fed are desperately pushing for a change in the law but are being completely stonewalled by the Gov.

And an MP picked up the cause but the Policing Minister washed his hands with it and said that they wont do anythingThe Police Fed are desperately pushing for a change in the law but are being completely stonewalled by the Gov.
You only have to read some of the drivel on facebook when stuff like this gets mentioned - it seems "off-road" bikers are a self-entitled bunch who have decided that because the places where they can legally are too far from where they live so, sod it, they'll just use the roads (and parks, fields, golf courses etc) instead. "No choice innit m8?"
I don't wish death / serious injury on any of them, and it's not just the under 30s, but maybe it's a reflection of society these days, nobody actually cares about whether something is lawful or not, so long as "I'm alright".

It's embarrassing. The Police Fed are desperately pushing for a change in the law but are being completely stonewalled by the Gov.
It should be very simple i.e. if you're breaking the law and are then pursued by the Police as a result of YOUR individual illegal activity, should you come to harm during this pursuit, you are the ONLY person to receive any blame.
One of the reasons I live gave up legitimate Trail riding.
We all got tarred with the same brush and it was very difficult to keep an acceptable, ( in the public eyes) profile when dressed up in off-road gear no matter how toned down we tried to dress!
Of course, things became worse when about 50% of the official motorised rights of way were closed down about 8 to 10 years ago.

What change would you like to see, serious question? Would it be workable? I also dislike all the cocky scrotes round here that swagger about with their hoodies up. The Police Fed are desperately pushing for a change in the law but are being completely stonewalled by the Gov.

As it stands, we are responsible for the driving and actions of someone we're pursuing. If they are driving dangerously and we are pursuing, then we are automatically considered to be driving dangerously as well. We have no exemptions due to our training and equipment. The only thing that prevents every pursuit Ifficer being charged is 'public interest' and good luck. Nobody is looking for a blanket get out of jail free card, but with the 'screw 'em all attitude' of the IPCC and the readiness of the CPS to be swayed by the baying media, no Officer is prepared to risk their livelihood or liberty.
I'm happy to be held account for my driving. I shouldn't be responsible for the welfare of the person refusing to stop.

It's disgraceful that you currently are held responsible in any way for their actions. The test as to whether an officer has done anything wrong should be simplified and much more in your favour. Maybe draw the line at deliberately ramming a stationary stolen bike at very high speed. Other than that, tough s
t if the scrotse get killed or injured whilst being pursued. It beggars belief that the government are hell bent on skewing things in the scrote's favour. Law abiding society doesn't want to see coppers unable to act to stop crime.
There definitely is a line to be drawn.
I think in the past there have been some pretty dangerous, fairly pointless pursuits with risk completely out of proportion to the crime at hand. However. Now with the absolute nonsense coming out from IPCC, CPS and the courts prosecuting cops for all sorts the pendulum has completely swung the other way and nothing is to be pursued, virtually. This is becoming well known by the scroterie.

I'm not sure the chasing officer should be done for dangerous driving, but there should be an assessment of risk to the public.
And that assessment takes place all the way through a pursuit. But you can never elimate risk completely. As it stand now, Supervisors and trained pursuit drivers can be prosecuted for not calling off a pursuit that they're not involved in but just listening to on the radio. I'm not sure the chasing officer should be done for dangerous driving, but there should be an assessment of risk to the public.

In a commercial environment you have to trust your staff unless something is obviously wrong. But if it goes wrong it's usually money at risk and not lives, and generally no one gets prosecuted.

I see both sides here. I'm less concerned about messrs scroat, but what if desperate scroat kills someone trying to get away.

So..... if said scote is seen during an illegal act by a foot plod, and plod runs after them, scrote hits pedestrian in his attempt to escape and kills them..foot plod is held to account???????I'm not sure the chasing officer should be done for dangerous driving, but there should be an assessment of risk to the public.
Extreme case but some hsnd wringing SJW might just see it that way though
I heard (so caveats it may not be true) that take your helmet off if on a bike and the police have to call off a pursuit. No chance of ever being caught. If that's true I'd change that one straight away. I'm ok up to a point about risks of injury to bystander and backing off a pursuit, but not if the person or persons on a motorbike do it. If they want to risk killing themelves without a helmet then that's their choice.
And if you're under the age of responsibility, stop the family allowance, the parents may get interested then.
I'm sounding like a daily mail reader but a points systems might be the way to go for general antisocial behaviour, wiped clean at say 16. As the points mount up then so do the penalties, get to 20 and its borstal, get to 30 and you have to watch Arsenal play.
