Seatbelt fine has not arrived in the post - what happens now
Discussion
Hi, I am new to this forum - in fact this is my first post. I tried to post in Speed, Plod and the Law bit but I wasn’t allowed to for 14 days and would really appreciate some advice if anyone has any asap.
2 weeks ago yesterday, I was driving from a children’s playgroup to my friends house, 1 road away I stopped to allow a police car past on a narrow road. I carried on driving and pulled up outside my friends house and got my things together and the police car drove past me, then reversed until they were level with me and asked me to get out of the car. I was a bit nervous and confused, then one of the policemen got out and told me I hadn’t been wearing my seal belt. This was true and I own up to that completely. I apologised profusely, promised I would wear one in the future, and graciously received my rather rude telling off and guilt trip - it certainly worked I make sure I put my belt on every single time I get in the car now.
He had a little handheld computer and asked for my details, car reg, owner of car, my name and address etc etc. He said I would receive a £100 fine in the post in a few days. Well it’s been 15 days and I still haven’t had a letter. I’m getting a little concerned in case the letter has gone missing in the post and they take it as I’m ignoring the fine and escalate things which is certainly not the case. But I’m not sure how this works and google hasn’t helped much. Is there a 2 week time limit like with other fines? I don’t really want to draw attention to it - I could obviously do without paying the fine! - and ‘remind’ them as it were, but im a bit nervous that things will get taken further if they think I’m not paying.
A couple of people also mentioned that it was a bit weird I wasn’t issued an on the spot ticket and they hadn’t heard of it coming through the post before?
So, I’m basically just asking if anyone else has had a similar experience and if anyone has any advice regarding what I should do - leave it? Chase it up? I don’t even know who to contact if i need to etc. Sorry for the essay and thank you very much to anyone who can help!

Two weeks is the timescale for the first notice of intention to prosecute/request to identify the driver to be received by the registered keeper, where the car hasn't been stopped at the time. You were stopped at the time, and notified, so that doesn't apply. They have up to six months to actually issue the penalty.
Ok so I guess it’s just a waiting game then!
Sorry I didn’t realise the 2 week thing didn’t apply, thanks for explaining.
I was more concerned that they might think I’m purposely not paying the fine, if they have already sent the letter and it’s gotten lost. It’ll come through one day I suppose!

I have had the same experience but the police man spelt my name wrong if it doesn't come to my address can they put the price up??
To be fair, it's usually spelt with two Ns
No, dont be daft. If the letter has come to Connor Williams, and you have giggled and thrown it in the bin, you might want to chase them, and tell them you haven't received anything, because failure to respond to whatever their first offer is might mean you are heading to Court, and that usually means the Mags have a wider range of options.
Hello,
I have been handed over traffic offence by not wearing seat belt. Community officer type in correct emails on the ticket. They said they will email me the fine details . I have not received any communication despite emailing them three time, neither recieve any thing in the post . Its been nearly 10 days ticket was issued. What shall i do ? how to find if fine has been issue or any points on the licence ? how to contact them .How long it will take to arrive in the post?
Thanks in advance

i got pulled for speeding by an unmarked car last year. it took 4 months for the ticket to come through the post. as toomany2cvs says, you have been notified of intended prosecution (nip) at the road side. so the 14 days doesn't apply. Ten days isn't that long. Our force aims to get the letters out within a month, but it depends on a number of factors.
No points for not wearing your seatbelt though. Just a fine. Maybe an online seatbelt course.

The chance of any sort of penalty arriving now, is, I would say, minimal.
So! Draw back the curtains, relax, open the front door and go out! I expect the world has changed a little bit in the past ninety months.
This is a seven year old thread which has been resurrected by someone who has been stopped for driving without a seatbelt recently.
It would probably be better for arsal44 to start his own thread to avoid confusion about whether he has been waiting a few days or seven years for a ticket.

Hello all. This is my post, which is in fact from 7.5 years ago haha!
Someone commented on it yesterday which seems to have set off some confusion.
For clarity, I did indeed receive my seatbelt fine around 7.5 years ago. I also had to complete an online seatbelt safety course. Can’t remember exact time frame but received the letter within around a month of this post I think.
So for the person who commented yesterday, I’m afraid you’ll likely have one arrive in the next little while!

Well, I hate to go against the advice of a serving copper, but I reckon you might be ok after seven and a half years.

Look at the post i quoted...it isn't the OP...The chance of any sort of penalty arriving now, is, I would say, minimal.
