Do you have any confidence in the police?

im fully aware that it’s been cut to beyond the bone,
That in itself should be unlawful but it’s where we are at
And I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t pay more tax to support them.
But does anyone have any anecdotes where they’ve sorted the problem got a result or even turned up?
I’m sat here longing for a “fire up the Quattro” police force
Where yes the wrong one got a good hiding from time to time but the ones who they couldn’t prove it got a good hiding as well
Does anyone have any anecdotes of them doing a good job
Because I’m sat here waiting for a visit from Tuesday

I deal with the Police daily on a work level, as with any organisation you have hard workers, average workers and lazy workers so it's not a surprise that sometimes things can be frustrating but one thing is abundantly clear, they are providing a service as best they can with significantly less funding than they should have. That in itself should be unlawful but it’s where we are at

The majority of officers I've dealt with over the years have been top notch though and have great conversational skills!
On a personal level I've dealt with the Police twice, one for an assault against me and another when my cat converter was stolen from my car, from the line of work I'm in I knew immediately there wasn't anything realistic they could do regarding the theft but I reported it for stats purposes, kept in touch for a couple of days and closed the file although I did spot a few more police vehicles in the area over the next week or so, related or not I don't know.
The assault time I felt they could have done a bit more, I explained this and a senior officer (I forget what rank as it was over 7 years ago) rang to have a brief chat explained what they did and why they did it and I was satisfied, the biggest reasons for dissatisfaction from the public is that they don't understand why some things are done in a certain way, they may not agree but If it's explained they tend to be more accepting.
Overall I have confidence in them but I think they need quite a bit more support as their role over the last 15 years and going into the future is rapidly changing.
Just yesterday there was a disturbance around the corner from my house. two cars were parked opposite each other, a small car could get through, the large Mercedes trying to get through could not.
The white female driver made the mistake of sounding her horn. A family of 9 asian men, the two parked cars belonged to them, came out and started walking around her car, making racist taunts.
She rang the police, they said they were too busy to come out. She got out of the car and ran into a neighbours house.
The police arrived this morning to investigate.

My last contact with police was when I attended a station to report an attempted identity theft / fraud. Someone had arranged to have my post redirected so they could intercept the credit cards and associated pins they applied for in my name.
I was told by the assistant ‘Doris’ that no crime had been committed and there was no officer available to speak with.
Apparently attempted theft is no longer a crime.

When I were a lad, I grew up with great respect (fear?) for the police, and would subscribe to the 'if you've done nothing wrong. you've got nothing to worry about' mantra.
However, the Miners' Strikes and the infamous Stefan Kiszko case seriously dented my faith - not only in the 'men' involved, but in the police and court system as a whole.
Maybe it's all a lot better now, but I have my doubts.

Complete confidence based on my experiences in the recent past.
Scrotes broke into our office, crime scene officers attended, scrotes arrested based on info found at scene and goods returned.
Neighbour had keys stolen and car taken. Car spotted 30 miles away, car recovered, and suspects arrested.
I was stopped for suspected no insurance, traffic cop was very professional, I had proof of insurance, once checked out allowed on my way.
Most people seem to focus on the occasional failure rather than the thousands of successes which we take for granted.

Not massive confidence, no. There are too many instances of corruption and wrongdoing in the police force for me to have that.
I make an effort to be law abiding and make arrangements to protect me and mine as best as I can, which will hopefully reduce any involvement l may need.
As for more taxes, not a chance and I know many who feel the same. We already pay too much tax; maybe it needs to be spent better but more? No.

Think you have to differentiate between the media and liberal hysteria and the reality.
The reality is, UK crime has fallen 40-70% since the 1990s.
The police are not perfect (nobody is). But crime is consistently trending down longterm and they deserve some of the credit for it.
Do you believe that, honestly? The reality is, UK crime has fallen 40-70% since the 1990s.

The UK crime figures are confirmed to a high degree of accuracy by government, independent and international auditors and standards. The figures are not 100% perfect, but no country on Earth is.
Britain has a relatively honest and safe police force where ~95% of officers do not carry guns, and just about the most respected legal system in the entire world.
Are UK police perfect. No, of course not. No police force on Earth is perfect. But we should stop the culture of talking down the police just because it sells papers or makes some handwringing liberal maniac feel self-important.
What was the incident from last Tuesday?
When we had our office break in, they were with us within an hour of calling them.
The scrotes were caught within a week.
Ignoring the headline statistics which are open to massaging, the fear of crime against the average man in the street certainly feels like it has fallen. Not sure if that is because we have one of the best police forces in the world (which we clearly still do have) or social changes which have resulted in the feeling of greater security.
I think the balance of cost, tax, quality of service are well balanced but I'm not one of these lilly liveried moralists who want more services without being willing to pay for them, arguing that the tax should be spent more wisely. We can't even spend our household budget without waste so it's unrealistic to expect a perfect spending policy from any Government.

My limited interactions with the police as a victim have been pleasant enough.
Still waiting for them to call me back with an update on two motoring incidents that happened 7 years and 3 years ago. On both incidents, they couldn't have been any less interested or bothered to investigate.

I have a reasonable amount of faith in members of the police to do the best job they can in a bit of a s
t set of circumstances.
Not sure how effective I expect them to be, but I blame resources etc for that.
How much faith I have in the decision making that dictates what they're meant to do and how, that's another matter.
However, they're generally physically smaller/weaker, and his point is that being on their own might mean that they're put in situations that could go badly for them. That's not a criticism of anything they can do anything about, but of the decision to send them out alone.
I think that, alone, even a fairly burly officer (of either gender) would struggle with someone who really didn't want to be arrested.

Many crimes are not reported are they?
Are crime levels just measured by recorded crime? (See how helpful lame one line replies are?).

It's significantly different from the 1970s / 1980s. Maybe it's all a lot better now, but I have my doubts.
