Driving licence code 119 on D1E entitlement?

Hi there, good Pistonhead folks...
Last night I was, as you do, perusing my driving licence codes. Wondering what restriction 119 on my D1E meant, and finding "Weight limit does not apply", well, I got all confused...
I have a standard car licence, passed the test in the early 1990s back when you could actually drive stuff without needing 30 pieces of paper and at least 1000 shillings; so I have the usual D1 and D1E categories.
As far as I can tell, this means I can drive any bus, provided it's shorter than 8 metres & has an absolute maximum of 16 seats (excluding driver's seat), irrespective of it's plated weight? (D1)
It also means, I can tow any trailer behind said bus, and I don't have to worry about the 12000kg max GVW limit? Is that correct?
Please take it as read this is "not for hire or reward" - I currently have a 10 metre 12 ton bus (with less than 16 seats) which I can't drive because I don't have D or C categories on my licence - this is for dragging my racing car around. However, if I can drive an 8-metre vehicle, then one of those midi-sized coaches would make an ideal motorhome, with the car on a trailer behind.
So, the question is: Can I really drive a vehicle of more than 7.5t GVW/MAM? Can I really drive a "minibus"+trailer combo of > 12t MAM?

D1E is 12t max MAM (bus + trailer), <16 seats, <8m, trailer (no max).
D1E (119) is <16 seats, <8m, trailer (no max).
So you still can't drive your 10m, <16 seat, 12t bus - but only because it's too long. Weight is fine.
Trailers above 3.5t MAM hit a whole separate set of C&U rules, of course.

So you still can't drive your 10m, <16 seat, 12t bus - but only because it's too long. Weight is fine.
Trailers above 3.5t MAM hit a whole separate set of C&U rules, of course.

Yes, I know I can't drive my 10mtr coach
But I can get a "D" licence for that, as it's now plated as a "box van" with MAM 12t. But in the meantime... time to start eBaying for short coaches 
My trailer is a standard Brian James car trailer; I forget what it's plated at, but it's <= 3.5t I'm sure.

Wouldn't that make it C/CE, since it's now a 12t van rather than a 12t bus?AdeV said:
