This morning on the way to work I made an attempt to overtake a car doing 40 in a 60 limit, only for the driver to speed up considerably to prevent me, turning to smirk at me as he did so. I backed off and dropped in behind, whereupon he braked back to around 40.

Attempt was made on a straight stretch of single carriageway, nothing coming the other way. Plenty of space to overtake when I started, but I backed off as there was a solid white line up ahead and he had a faster car.

I have dash cam footage, but I don’t want to turn into a Road Warrior.

Worth reporting? Or just move on with life?

Move on.

Karma will ensure that the same fate will occur to the culprit when he tries to overtake a faster car.

Same as above, move on. I used to get riled about this sort of thing years ago - now I let it wash over me. You never know where the next Kenny Noye is lurking....

When I encounter a dick on the roads like this, I just do whatever I can to put as much distance as possible between me and them. In your instance you've described, once I was behind him again I would have slowed down lots until he disappeared over the horizon in front of me. Whilst tuning into Classic FM for 10 minutes to assist with the reduction in blood pressure!

Yup, have this problem a lot with my MX5, those diesel rep mobiles really get up and go when they kickdown. My solution, overtake in a 'catapult' motion (start accelerating from 6-7 car lengths, signal and move to oncoming lane at last second), if you sit too close to them riding the centreline it seems to encourage tttery.

Also have great fun baiting them into corners WAY too fast when they decide to appear 3cm from your back bumper after passing them, delivery driver in a 1 ton 'sportscar' seems to be able to turn in considerably faster than an accountant driving 2 tons of health and safety gubbins. Watching them understeer, st themselves & slam on the anchors mid corner is hilarious.

Indeed. Road rage takes two. You will get all wound up and be a danger to other innocent 'non-combatants' further down the road.

I would report it. He might only get words of advice, or nothing may come of it at all, but it’s one of the most stupid, ignorant and dangerous bits of bad driving that drivers knowingly do.

Then forget about it and move on.

Really? You think that it is worth tying up police resources to look at this (or even just to file it)? It sounds like the guy drove like a prick, but reporting it feels like a complete waste of time. I would rather the police work on something useful.

Yes. Great. While you're playing wanabee racing drivers, a family driving in the opposite direction get totalled.
