I have had a NIP from S. Wales Police for doing 35mph in a 30 zone.

I thought there was a tolerance of 10% + 2mph and anything over that was then subject to action - eg 36mph.

Is there a way to point this agreement by the ACPO out to them to avoid the tax or is that old hat?

I probably won't be offered one of the (clearly ineffective in my case) speed awareness courses as I had one last year.

Those are just guidelines.

As said - just guidelines.

I had always taken 35 mph to be the start of the zone by that description anyway

10% of 30 = 3
+2 = 35

Also ACPO was dissolved in 2015.

10% + 2 is the speed at which enforcement would start under the guidelines. You're "safe" speed is therefore 10% + 1. I think a lot of people make this mistake!

10% + 2 = 35 mph

The 'tolerance' isn't 10% + 2 + 1.

Looks like i will have to pay the tax indeed.

I saw the same van driving down the road about 2 mins later, he must have been rushing back to base to celebrate: "Got him at last"...

Been getting away with it for years, Gits.. biggrin

Whats it going to cost me?

Unless you belong to a particular section of our society that has its very own thread on PH of course.

Do you need any work doing on your drive by any chance?

If she was doing 30, a kid ran out, and she missed them by a millimetre, at 34 she would have hit them at 16 mph.

That won't kill them, but will probably break their legs.

Wasn't there a prize offered for sub-35MPH in a 30 NIPs? Was it ever claimed?

I have told her to be more careful about being 4mph over the limit. And about babies legs and everything.

Of course that 4mph might mean that you had already passed the point in the road where they ran out..

Serious question, the police always used to use an element of common sense when deciding who got nicked, this is no longer the case as in most cases its now about revenue collection so zero tolerance raises the most .
But how accurate are these things? would the manufacturer absolutely guarantee that if the camera read 35.00mph it is exactly 35.00 and there are zero circumstances in anyway that a reading could be slightly high. I'm guessing that as (if they do) the guide lines are being ignored and it could be proved that in certain circumstances they could read slightly out the police would fall back on "30mph is the limit 30.00001 is speeding and we are sure you where doing at least that"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVdjZE2YhLE

Interesting watch, I bet they are not as accurate as many people believe. Be interesting if the home office would allow an interdependent tester to work with them and run a few experiments and publish the data, but they wont

P.S none of this mattered when the police used to give a reasonable buffer on the speed, but if they are NIPing at 35 whats next 31,
