68 in 60 on the M25
Discussion
Oh the irony!
Normally I am the one who likes to drive fast...
But...
Mrs Cheb opened her mail 2 days ago and found a NIP for 68mph in 60 on M25 - section with variable speed limit between M20 and Dartford.
It was my impression that the ACPO guidelines were speed limit + 10% +2mph which puts her bang on 68mph. If that is the case - why the NIP? I think an offer of SAC is on the table, but I am just curious about the guidelines or is that "old wives tales"?
And no, she has never had any convictions or offenses and neither have I...
Thanks in advance for any advise provided

ACPO went away a couple of years ago so their guidelines are no long applicable although they may still be followed. And they were only guidelines, not a rule.
10%+2 is the threshold for when prosecutions start, so 68MPH is within the range for a NIP. I got done for 68 in a 60 in Norfolk a few years ago and was offered a SAC so hopefully your other half will get the same.

Why the NIP?
Because it's 68, which using 10% +2mph is where it starts. It's not when you go over speed limit+10%+2mph it's when you reach that.
Fair enough - never had to deal with anything like that before hence asking the question. Looks like a SAC for her then... And me constantly taking the mickey Because it's 68, which using 10% +2mph is where it starts. It's not when you go over speed limit+10%+2mph it's when you reach that.

Know that pain - dad got one in the same place for 57 in a 5 last month and will likely be offered a course.
In addition the GF was flashed nearly 3 weeks ago coming back in her new car doing a likely GPS of 55-58 in a 50 near Clacket lane - no idea when or if it will arrive though...

It's not really a stealth tax if you go on an SAC - it's a way of making money for private companies and it keeps ex-cops in beer money.Colleague got done for 46 on the M42 when the variable was set for 40 in light traffic and with no apparent reason. Most of the people on his course had been caught the same way. Makes you wonder.

Whilst I understand being peeved by the ticket - 68 in a 60 was probably reading at least 70 on the speedo so hardly being careful to remain within the ticket limits...Normally I am the one who likes to drive fast...

Unlikely to get a NIP after three weeks unless they couldn't get the correct address immediately (depends if it's a new car or just new to her).In addition the GF was flashed nearly 3 weeks ago coming back in her new car doing a likely GPS of 55-58 in a 50 near Clacket lane - no idea when or if it will arrive though...

I remember getting royally told off by Lady Hol nearly 20 years back when I bought my first Impreza. I suffered a good 10 minutes, of fast car etc..Normally I am the one who likes to drive fast...

Then, I started thinking about the date and realised it was the day of her nans funeral, that I couldn't attend due to work commitments. And she had borrowed my car that day, as I needed the other one with the parking permit..
I know it doesn't help you, but sadly I think she is unlucky.

Not even peeved off - just curious how it worked. Surprisingly, the speedo is very accurate up to about a ton...It is what it is... Seems that I need to keep my eyes peeled even more than ever...
P.S. No one spontaneously combusted, nor kids or kittens were killed either

Two things are wrong with that statement.
1. The laws and speed camera locations are gazetted, which is the opposite of stealth.
2. Speeding is entirely optional, which means its not a tax.
OP, just (gently) advise the Mrs to take the SAC.
Sure thing - she has filled the form and in there it states that an offer for SAC may be forthcoming if the form was returned promptly. Will try and be gentle with her 1. The laws and speed camera locations are gazetted, which is the opposite of stealth.
2. Speeding is entirely optional, which means its not a tax.
OP, just (gently) advise the Mrs to take the SAC.

Makes you wonder what?
How many people can't read a 4 foot speed limit sign? However I was more thinking it makes you wonder if, on occasion, they adjust the variable speed in order to maintain the required pipeline of attendees for the courses.
