I catch lots of poor driving on my dashcam, as I'm sure lots of other people do. Mostly I let it go, however, my dashcam caught a red light jumper in my home village.

The police must be overloaded with good Samaritans sending in videos all the time and I don't really want to be just another enraged motorist....

I would be interested if people think this is worth reporting.

Thanks.

(D&C police area, if it changes anything).

(sorry for the naff music: the only way I could find to share this video was via youtube and it put this music on without asking me, and I'm not techo savvy enough to remove it. Best watched on mute....)

Whats the point?

You can't even make out the registration. Beyond that IMO it's Karma - it'll eventually catch up with you when/if caught by BIB

What vehicle were you in? I guess he might not have seen the light and thought you were pulling in??

Volvo V70. Lower than him. There is no way he/she didn't see the red light.

Even if they thought I was pulling in (which doubt) they still went through a red light.

The bit you can't see on the video was they were taligating me all the way down the road.

Of course I have but I don't see this as a 'mistake'. I see it as a deliberate 'I can't be bothered to stop for that red light'.

You're making a massive assumption there though.

If they are that much of a prick then they'll come unstuck eventually

If they aren't and have made a genuine mistake then you'll just be ruining their day/week

I'm assuming you got the Dash Cam to cover yourself in case of an accident, so use it for that rather than trying to be a road warrior

Bigger crime in my eyes is blocking the junction!

Who cares. I have a dashcam and the only times I have gotten footage off it

- when I thought I had been done by a speed van and wanted to check my speed (hadn't luckily)
- getting footage from trackdays off it.

Plenty of times in anger I have pressed the button to save a clip but these just get watched, I chuckle and then deleted.

I couldn't imagine being the type of throbber to bother submitting evidence such as this to the police.

Well, that's why I asked if I should wink

Oh hum. OK, won't bother.

The fact that you have a chuckle at this kind of thing is desperately worrying for the rest of us.

Well I'm sorry, but I would support the OP 100% in reporting this. There are virtually no traffic police left on the roads now; that leaves the responsibilty for road safety down to the rest of us. Few things are more potentially dangerous than deliberately driving through a red light. I don't know where you live, but in my town it has reached epidemic proportions and the reason for this is simply that drivers are getting away with it: there is no visible deterrent.

Just ask yourself, how bad are things going to get before the authorities who have the power to change things actually do so.

Do you think they went through that red light by mistake or deliberately? By mistake, I assume you mean: didn't see it.

Lol

If you report that then you are acting like a pri(ck, basically.

On a well sighted temp setup like that it really is a victim less "crime".

The ONLY thing dashcams are good for, IMO, is getting out of a tricky whodunnit insurance claim. And they are occasionally amusing to watch on youtube. Especially the Russian ones as they do road rage turned up to 11.

I was not there, did not see it, don't care, let it go.

I presume the light was obviously working in this case? Even so, I wouldn't report it for a temporary light like that.

I don't know if it's countrywide, but the special people who put up these temporary traffic lights around here frequently either don't know how to set them or use crap equipment; they are frequently stuck on red so you have no choice but to go through them, people tend to act considerately and it usually doesn't cause too many issues. They did however manage to create absolute gridlock with the location of one set of these broken lights on a very tight corner in a normally quiet village. Best thing was they did it for three days on the run despite multiple complaints. The other trick is they leave the lights up even when they should have been taken down, they don't care when people call about it either. smile

So the driver has had a call from his wife, their child is choking and being taken by Ambulance to hospital, he's left work and is on his way to be by his wife and childs side, he either doesn't see the light (understandably distracted) or he sees it, sees its clear and takes a chance, because you know, his family is more important than a temp traffic light and he can see its clear

You'd report him? Nice!

Now obviously I have just made up that little story but it could be true, it could be even worse, busybodies like you should be banned from having dash cams
