Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but as a daily commuter to B'ham International i've noticed the old Gatso esque cameras have vanished (annoying as the ones on the opposite carriageway were the perfect indicator of one your side...)

I can only assume that they are switching to the newer 'cannon' type that sit on the side of the road?

Its becoming an impossibly boring section of motorway from Worcestershire all the way to B'ham, constant threat of cameras pretty much all the way bar a few miles nr Bromsgrove

All on the side of the road, and yellow (I think).

There's a handful of the yellow HADECS-3's on gantries out above the fields. These DO work.

(i.e. a side-gantry out to the side of the existing overhead "Smart Motorway" ones, with 2x yellow cameras side-by-side angled across to the carriageway)

Edit: I THINK they're all preceded by a grey CCTV-like pole (with 3 cylindrical CCTV-style small cameras in a row on it) ~200-300yds before the relevant gantry. Useful early-warning for when there's a strategic tree obstructing your view of the yellow HADECS-3.

I always slow to the limit for hadecs however on the M25 I have seen people blast past at 80 without a flash. I'm still not sure enough to give it a go though.

If there's no limit posted (i.e. std NSL applies), then I've heard suggestion that they're set to c.90. I've not been brave/stupid enough to risk it though...

Unfortunately the HADECS mounted on message boards have no need of the oversight of the grey 'giveaway' cameras frown

Set cruise to 70 - 75. Relax and put some decent tunes on.

These are now in place on the first gantry in the new smart motorway on the M62 J9 towards Manchester

Its come to a point where i've even proactively spec'd Radar cruise on my Leon having had it on a recent Mk7 Gti - its pretty much a boring plod now from entry to exit across the midlands

I was never one for travelling at 100+ or anything, but the odd blat up to 90 ish was inevitable to circumnavigate middle lane hoggers etc. now its just not worth the risk.

How does a cloned plate prevent a camera from flashing?
