Hello eveyone.

Right I work for a large gambling company as a technicain which ive done for just over 6 months so out of probabtionary time.

When I went for interview in Nov I was told by manager in first interview and 2 area managers in second interview that as of the new year the job would change from 5 and a half days to five days a week.

As of Feb the 1st every tech in nottingham has been working 5 days. (Same hours total)
All of the techs have been told about 3 hours ago that as of monday we are working a 5 and a half day shift again (It seems the company are trying to get ride of the manager 2 above me and in the process are shafting all the techs)

Do I and the only other tech taken on at that time have any grounds in a tribual to force the 5 days we where both told during interviews. My imediate manager was one of the 3 that told me about the 5 days and said if I called him he would state that he did say that.

As for the other techs they too are pissed and want to know if there is anything they can do.

Also once every 9 or so weeks we work a sunday. Now my contract says nothing about sundays or even hours for that matter and ive said fine if your going to remove the 5 days im not going to do a sunday as has one other tech. Can anything be done against me on that.

Below is what is written re days and hours from my contract
"The premises will be open during all seven days of each week, including public/bank holidays with the exception of Christmas Day, and your working week will be generally five and a half days. Your daily working hours will be agreed with your Area Manager. As you have already been informed there will be at least one early morning per week, as per the rota system. If you are required to work more than five and a half days per week or on a recognised statutory bank holiday you will be granted additional time off in lieu of this."

The job pays crap, I would love to fly a plane for a living but havnt got anywhere fast on anything other than a PFO from airlines for the past 2.5 years and this even though a crap job has been the only job I managed to get in all that time (I have a degree in electronics and comps as well as my commercial pilots licence but as soon as companys see that Im rather unemployable again).

Love your comments and help for me and all the nottingham techs

Pwig

Have a look around this site: www.emplaw.co.uk/emplaw/employee/research-employee.aspx

Select: "Main Employment Law Acts etc" on the left.

Scroll down the main screen to: "Working time Regulations 1998"

You can even contact them for advice if you wish.

Good Luck!

thanks for the reply.

Im currently in the process of trying to make life difficult to these 2 managers that have done this to us (They are very very high up in this company).

Currently there is a active discrimination against men and women as well as race issues with these 2 guys.

Eg men are only allowed to do certain jobs (that can equally be done by women)
Women are only allowed to do the lowest jobs in the company (Men are not allowed to do that position)
And no one of a black origin has been employed as its not in either of these 2 guys opinion that a couloured person could do the job.

So im currently composing an email to go to the news channels. As this company has ammusments in just about every county in the uk this could go to any local news as well as national news.

Does anyone have any links to local news/national news email addresses so I can send to as many as possible

Thanks

One other point to note is that an employer cannot push through a change to your working conditions without your permission. If you, and your colleagues all refuse to accept the changes the company may back down. Beware that they may make life miserable for you, although they may then be open for you to make a claim of constructive dismissal if it gets bad enough for you to leave.

Best option is to find another job as soon as possible.
