Hi, looking for a heads up, in amongst the Xmas cards was a speeding fine, def me, 48 in a 30, I thought it was a 40, checked and it’s a 30.
What’s the likely fine etc, trying to pacify the wife!

I currently have a clean licence.
Thanks

£100, 3pt FPN - or a half-day of tea and biscuits for £90ish.

You will be offered a course if you haven't done one in the last 3 years otherwise £100 and 3 points

Doesn't that say it will be a summons for doing 48mph in a 30mph limit?

No.

It says
<35, nothing.
35-42, SAC.
50+, summons.

Pity no SAC at that speed - it reminds you how to instantly identify what's a 30 and what's not...

I read it as:
<35, nothing.
35-42, SAC.
50+ (or any case above 42mph), summons.

Not sure where the bracketed bit comes from, but you're missing the implicit "35-50 - FPN"

Unless eligible for SAC then fixed penalty at and above 35 mph but SJPN at and above 50 mph.

48/30 is too fast for a course and one course every three years is not quite correct as there are multiple speed awareness courses:

NSAC
NSAC20 (20 mph)
Motorway SAC
Various places not in the national scheme

It's simple

For a 30

<35 your ok
35 to 50 is a fixed penalty unless your in the window for sac and haven't done one recently, 50+ day in court

Really? Seems very clear to me.

If your speed is within the blue column, you're laughing.
Within the green columns, you're up for tea and biccies, if it's available to you/in your area.
Red columns, get the suit to the cleaners.

Okay. Let's look at what it says (rather than how you are interpreting it)

Blue column. At 30mph you will get an FPN AT 35mph. It doesn't say FROM 35mph. Column is called "fixed penalty when education is not appropriate" but I think they mean "starting point for fixed penalty or education alternative". Is this saying that, in a 30 limit, between 35 and 50 there is a sub set of 35 to 42 for SAC and another band between 42 and 50 which is FPN ? Because that isn't what it is actually saying.

Pink column. What the hell is "in all other cases " ? What happens at 49 in 30 ? What is the point of this being 50 in a 30.

Etc etc....

Sorry, you're suggesting that you interpret that as "35mph, and only 35mph. Not 36mph."?

No. I'm suggesting that is what it SAYS.

And, i forgot to mention, the text in yellow appears under specific columns inappropriately.

Like I said. Clear as mud

It’s crystal clear to anyone who isn’t being a pedant for the sake of it.

The same SAC.

Not quite as a SJPN does not mean a day in court.

Also, 35 to 49 mph. Not 35 to 50.

The chart was obviously written years ago - as it refers to a summons. SJPN these days. You won’t need a suit for a hearing you can’t attend.

Then he either can’t read, or made an honest mistake. I have no problem reading that table at all amd your assertions over the FPN only being offered for 35, because that’s how it’s worded is pretty poor.
