Do I have to be stopped to receive a ticket?
Discussion
I never speed usually, but just wondering IF doing 96 on the motorway at night with not much traffic unfortunately due to a family emergency, is there any chance of me getting caught if there were no camera signs at all? Say by an officer noting down the speed and dealing with it later?
Too dark to see or recall any marked or unmarked cars, but I am known for being hecking paranoid but I like to be aware of all avenues.

It's the cameras that get you not the signs. Did you pass any cameras or did you not notice?Too dark to see or recall any marked or unmarked cars, but I am known for being hecking paranoid but I like to be aware of all avenues.
If there were cameras, and they've got you, then you'll get a fine.
Most aren't turned on even when present though.
No, an unmarked car won't report you 'later'.
A camera van however would, but I've never seen one used after dark.... anyone care to comment on this?
Speed trap warning signs are not a legal requirement.

2. New generation cameras can operate in low light levels - infra red.
Some forces have them.
Unlikely to be used on deserted motorways - enforcement is more targeted.

New year doesn't look too good for you!
If he has registered his vehicle using his PH username, someone in enforcement happens across this forum, puts the two together and can be bothered to do anything I think you're right. New year doesn't look too good for you!
There's more chance of aliens landing in his garden though.

There is a chance yes. The majority of people done for speeding are not stopped.Too dark to see or recall any marked or unmarked cars, but I am known for being hecking paranoid but I like to be aware of all avenues.
The chances in your described circumstances are low unless you have happened through a variable speed limit.

I've never seen a van after hours, but have seen a traffic car 'at it' after dark on the A1M at Peterborough Services. It was dry, I doubt the enthusiasm would extend to dark and wet. Most aren't turned on even when present though.

Yes, an unmarked car (well the officer/officers in it) can send you a NIP/172 within 14 days. Most aren't turned on even when present though.

I’ve seen a camera van out after dark with Infra red light set up, no idea if it works as I was within the 30 limit!!
