FIRE CREWS UNDER ATTACK

Skynews said:
FIRE CREWS UNDER ATTACK

Up to 40 attacks are carried out against firefighters every week, according to the Fire Brigades Union.

It says crews are regularly targeted by hooligans who throw bricks, bottles and other missiles at them.

There have even been instances of fires being started deliberately to lure firefighters into ambushes.

The union called for a national strategy to combat the increasing number of assaults on fire crews.

FBU general secretary Andy Gilchrist said it was "only a question of time before a firefighter is killed".

Cases uncovered by the union included scaffolding poles thrown through windscreens and equipment tampered with or stolen, and in some cases urinated on.

The FBU said attacks had reached the 2,000 mark over the year but added the true figure could be three times higher because of under-reporting of such incidents.

Mr Gilchrist said: "The number and ferocity of the attacks appears to be getting worse.

"A young boy in Scotland died in one attack and it is only a question of time before a firefighter is killed.

"These attacks are inexcusable and must not be tolerated. It can never be part of anyone's job to get a brick or bottle in the head, or to be spat at."

I didn’t post this for discussion as it goes without saying that these attacks are sickening beyond comprehension.

I was instead wondering what PHers would think if these attacks started happening against mobile scamera operators; have we come to the point where some believe these are worthwhile targets?
Would you shed a tear if a camera operator was seriously injured (or worse) in a similar attack?

Don't hurt the crews. I'd have no problem with dragging them out and torching the van though.

That is someone else doing it. I'm a bona fide coward.
