Question for Dwight Van Driver
Discussion
Hi DVD.
I have a work colleague who has just passed his CBT for small motorcycles. He is over 40 so is going on to his Direct Access, starting from tonight.
He has bought an old 1000cc hack which requires an MOT.
His question is, can he ride the bike to an MOT station with an out of date tax disc. As you know, he cannot get a tax disc without an MOT.
Thanks
Blademan

Chee those legislators, MV Driving Licence Regs now a virtual mine field.
As I understand it your friend is still a MC Prov Lic Holder but being over 21 and having the CBT Certificate he may now practice on a MC which exceeds the UK learner spec. BUT in doing so he MUST be under the supervision of a certified Direct Access Instructor. (Presume CBT chappies will have explained all this).
Law allows a vehicle to be riden direct to a MOT Station for purpose of being tested without Excise and current MOT PROVIDED test has been pre-booked by appointment.
So your friend can take it for testing if under supervision of DA Instructor who will be on his own bike.
DVD
Should add this is not allowed if there is any major defect with the vehicle that makes its use dangerous.
