Hi Guys,
Just checking my e-mails and I have had one which is supposedly from the DVLA, saying that they have electronically received details that I have just bought another car. This is news to me, because I definitely have not! Apparently, I will receive my new V5c within the next fortnight and I cannot reply to the e-mail. I am assuming that this is part of some scam and it is my intention to contact the DVLA first thing on Monday. Is there anything else that I should do? Has anyone else had this and if so, is there anything I should be worried about?
Thanks in advance for any positive replies. wavey

I have never known the DVLA to email a customer upon registration of a car, ever.

I would say confidently it is a scam. Any links to click?

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses so far. The e-mail has two boxes for what it calls crown images, I am assuming that this is where the DVLA logo is meant to go. There is a reference which includes the registration of the car I am supposed to have bought and some apparent links to the DVLA car tax sites, but nothing that I can see to click on that would cause me to be overly suspicious. There is the name of the manager to contact too. As the car is apparently mine, I may have carried out some preliminary checks and have discovered that the car in question is a Renault Clio sport 197.

Could you screen shot the email deleting your personal details?

There maybe some PHers on here who could confirm if this is a defo scam which it appears to be

Oh, ok, it’s not a new car registration.

I reckon the email address has been typed in wrong. Do you have a common name/email like firstname.lastname@hotmail.com?

You have the option to get an email when you do the transfer online. I've had them for my last two cars. This one from last September.

a legit email looks like this - just ring DVLA on the Monday, it's probably an error

edit: appears i've been beaten to it!

Yes, see my post above. I assumed OP was talking about he registration of a brand new vehicle rather than the change of keeper.

It is most likely someone had put an email address in incorrectly.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the responses. The screenshots shown are exactly like the one I have received, even down to the name of the person sending it. I suspect that the actual buyer has given the incorrect e-mail address or somewhere along the line a mistake has been made, culminating in my receipt of this e-mail. As suggested, I will be contacting DVLA first thing on Monday to sort this out.
A virtual pint to you all.

Those links in the email could actually link to a scam site. Hover over them without clicking and have a look.

Just out of interest, is it possible to do the change of address on here too?

The service is only available between 7 & 7 so can't get any further than the first few questions before it boots me out but it only seems to ask if I have brought, sold or scrapped. Nothing about change of address.
