best lines from the police when stopped..........
Discussion
seen a few posts on here regarding the tone/attitude from the old bill recently, the so called 'attitude test'
whats the best lines youve heard from the police?
i once wrote my first metro off on a slippery roundabout a few days before xmas at about 9pm. had dropped my mates off in town and was heading home, as you do.
wrong lane, lack of experience (had only been driving 2 weeks) and came off and hit a tree square on. bruised shoulers and ribs but nothing else.
traffic turned up about 5 mins later. im on the phone to mam and dad claiming it wasnt my fault - naturally!
they breathalysed me and blew 0. then tossed me the tube and said 'by the way, merry christmas' and they left me with my first car in bits and the old man on the way to give me an ear bashing!
looking back they cld have been a lot worse and i certainly learnt my lesson.

It is luck of the draw.
I got pulled over in my TVR S many years ago near Newcastle. It was a Sunday and I was stuck behind a line of cars doing 40 in a 60, I overtook about 5 of them on a long well sighted straight, I was just about at the end of the straight when a police car came tearing up behind me and pulled me over.
I had never been stopped by the police before and I was very polite but they where extremely aggressive and rude, including slagging off my car.
They had VASCAR and accused me of doing 118mph while overtaking the cars, this was clearly total b
ks and not even possible given the performance of the car but they told me that if I argued I would have to go to court in Newcastle which would be a real pain given that I lived in Aberdeen.
They gave me the standard 3 points and fine which I am sure they would never have done if I had really averaged 118mph in a 60 limit.
I had a hitch hiker in the car and she said that she had been watching my speed and that I had been nowhere near 100mph let alone 118mph, I assume that they where further back in the queue, had no idea how fast I was going and put a high number into the VASCAR readout so that I would not argue.
All pretty stupid really, it did not change how I drive but gave me a very negative view of the police.
On the other extreme, a few years ago, I was going down an fast, flowing A road in my Alfa Brera S when a car pulled out behind me and followed me for about 8 miles, I wasn't going crazy but I wasn't slowing down for the corners and was not hanging about.
They eventually pulled me over and the first thing the policeman said was " that thing corners like it is on rails, I could not keep up round the corners" he was clearly a fan of the car and let me away with a warning to slow down a bit, he was not a traffic cop and that might be part of the difference but he was very polite and a total contrast to the officers mentioned above.

"Oh I know those things are powerful and it is all too easy to let the speed rise." Referring to my 125cc 11bhp Chinese bike. After pulling me for ~45 in 30 (No excuse, but it was quiet 12AM).
The guy was actually really reasonable, gave a big b
king about how if I was going a couple of mph I could well be getting done for dangerous driving (Scotland). Put the fear of god into 19 year old me then finished on "Unless my partner objects I'm going to leave you with a verbal caution tonight, as I would much spend my Friday night out catching scum coming home drunk and beating there wives than be writing you up a ticket"

Now, for those who aren't familiar with the old DS, the side lights, even when working at best efficiency, weren't exactly bright, and on this one they certainly weren't the best.
"Sir, you're supposed to have side lights on here, side lights, not a set of ruddy glowing wires."

Some years ago, after a slightly iffy run down the outside of a line of cars (one of them being an unmarked Vectra) coming out of the Reigate one way in my barry’d up focus...
‘If I played the footage back from my on board camera in front of a court I could stick you on for careless or dangerous driving. If I were a traffic copper I’d have nothing better to do than sit in court and nick you for being an idiot for a few seconds and making a stupid move. Lucky for you I’m an armed police officer not an a
hole traffic copper, and I have better things to do. You’re not going to risk being stupid again in front of a miserable traffic copper and lose your license are you?’
‘No sir’
‘Then be more careful and f
k off out of my sight’
‘thank you sir’
The man clearly didn’t like traffic coppers!

Not me but a chap who had been in the IAM for a long time.
He was 'making progress' and back in those days you had to advise them of any accident/convictions so he was within the limit and on it when safe
The road he was on was a to quote him 'a lovely windy road with a good selection of straight and varying curves and hills/dips' of which he was well aware of
When he got into the town he noticed a car behind that suddenly lit up with the blue lights.
Stopped and the normal 'pleasantries' were exchanged when he decided to ask why he had been stopped
'You have no brake lights'
This floored him as he had checked them before setting out, via the good lady so asked to PC to check they were ok which they were
''
Well they are faulty ,so a ticket is still in order'.
He question the officer further and was told he had been followed along said road and they never came on once, which he had to do in order to keep up through the curves
The penny dropped so he told him, 'That's because i never touched them',and educated him on the correct way to drive using anticipation and correct gear etc
Lad had never heard of this and later he joined the IAM ,and became a very good member

The: "so called 'attitude test' " doesn't always involve the police officers giving out attitude to test a driver. As amply demonstrated right here on Pistonheads, plenty of drivers fail the attitude test without any assistance whatsoever from the officers who pull them over!
(What I've never understood, is why certain drivers think that giving a police officer who has pulled them over a load of attitude, abuse and s
t, is going to help their situation in any way. How can they not realise that all it's going to do is make the situation worse? ) Got stopped for speeding many years ago, I had my insurance certificate on me, and he said, in an accusatory tone "but this runs out in 2 days."
If I'd showed him my new one I had at home, he'd quite rightly have said "This isn't valid, it doesn't start for 2 days". I mean, what the hell did he want from me?

Making progress yet not using brakes - that's, er, unusual. He was 'making progress' and back in those days you had to advise them of any accident/convictions so he was within the limit and on it when safe
