Late November a neighbour got very drunk, as this person often does, jumped into their car and got less than half a mile up the road before hitting the back of a parked car. I know the Police were involved and I know this person was drunk and spent the night in a cell as a result.

We are now almost 2.5 months on but they are still driving. Apparently there's been no court date yet, which I find hard to believe.

What is the normal expectation here?

I should add, I feel sorry for this person because of their drink problem, and is a lovely person when sober, but I am worried they are still up to the same old tricks.

It was nearer five months for my neighbour - I thought it was forgotten

He stopped driving immediately as he felt it was the right thing to do and expected a swift court case. He was subsequently banned for 15 months - he points out that he effectively added those months to his ban voluntarily

The person on our street still drives, and often drunk too.

I thought drink driving cases were fast tracked and dealt with inside a couple of weeks. It seems strange to allow them to carry on driving legally and the risks that brings.

It is not unknown for people to employ various delaying tactics to prolong the process in order to allow them to keep driving until eventually convicted.

Unless you are a witness, or have access to Mags court lists and/or there was some media coverage you might well have missed his court appearance and as Red 4 pointed out he could be a disco driver.
