Can any let me know from which year it became necessary for over 70s to renew their Driving License every 3 years.

Thanks in advance

I believe the full licence expiring at 70 came in in the mid 70s. The 3 years extensions could well be the same.

I think 1934 saw the introduction of licence renewal every three years.

1 January 1976 saw full licences become valid for 3 years or until the holder's 70th birthday, whichever was the longer.

Before 70 years old, there are limitations on licence duration with some medical conditions.

Interesting read, thank you agtlaw.

I have to do a medical for my C+E every 5 years even though I have not driven trucks for 15 years but I can if I need to springs to mind.

Mine renewed on my 70th birthday, new one valid for three years, so you seem to be right, three yearly after 70.

Thanks all, we had a bit of confusion going on regarding 3 year license renewal for over 70s and 10 year photocard renewal !
