I live in the area and have been caught during this increase. If you're driving to South Wales be very careful, mobile units are heavily used....

Until proper criminals agree to wear number plates, it's easier and more profitable than addressing real crime.

The cameras on the M4 should be no surprise, they have been there for years and there was info when they went live.

Interesting the number of 30 caught compared to the others.

Guessing it is an increase in detection, considering when the M4 variables came in. Annoyingly 50 will drop to 40 then up to 60 in the space of a few miles.

Easy Money. Put up stupid (lower) speed limits, and then make an issue of 'speeding motorists'. I see Brake got in on the act.

I've seen NSL drop to 40 with no intermediate limits (M25).

Not sure what it is like elsewhere for over controlling intervention, and having driven a lot "managed" sections over the years, the Welsh Assembly I am told meddle a lot. There is a genuine concern though and that is the M4 is the only real main artery into S Wales and accidents block and cause chaos as there is no real way around them. I can understand the concern but there needs to be some flow to it all.

One big concern that is being addressed at this moment is the tunnels at Newport, that resulted in a 50 for years on the West bound section and probably with good reason but I have driven eight miles with warnings for lane closures and advisory 50 before now before the section being warned about. I expect people get fed up and just crack on.

How long does it take you to slow from 70 to 40?

The signs are visible for 100s of metres before you get to them and there is a one minute delay after the sign changes before enforcement begins, I can’t see what the issue is. Well I can, drivers don’t want to simply comply so make up silly excuses.

You are just a one-trick pony, trying to force everybody to play your stupid game.

Why should anyone 'comply'? The premise is flawed and the deck is stacked.
If people actually truly believed the ste you and your kind peddle then there wouldn't be massive numbers failing to 'comply'

The level of compliance you actually do manage is mostly a result of a fear of punishment rather than a belief in your claptrap.

Great job you are doing. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Hundreds of metres? How many 100?I’ve passed a blank gantry at 70 to see another maybe 200 metres ahead, previously obscured by the first and traffic, at 40. Takes just a few seconds to cover that distance and braking from 70 to 40 causes congestion at best, an accident at worst.

It compounds the stupidity when the next gantry says 60, the next 30 and so on. Particularly when there seems no good reason to be slowing the traffic.

I’m not one to condone reckless, even regular, exceeding of speed limits but the management of our motorways does appear mind blowingly poor.

The speed difference between motorists when this happens is extremely dangerous (IME). Did anyone from the control room explain why?

So I have to ask. We have debated recently, but as I have a declared anti speed limit enforcement agenda, what drives, your pro agenda?
Is it your job? Trying to ask nicely biggrin

There's definitely been a major increase in enforcement, but also there has been a massive and wholesale reduction in speed limits. The results are inevitable An "increase in speeding"!!

You couldn't make it up could you?

As far as I know, he's a troll, posted for years under a whole variety of bizarre aliases, used to work for Cumbria speed scammers, now I think is, among other roles, an "expert witness" in speed camera prosecutions, and works in the industry. There are others on here who have much more information on his sad career.

Best just to laugh at him as he is a complete joke, a real saddo. loser

He is more transparent than your windscreen, and far less useful.

No recent experience of driving in Wales but in terms of where I live (North Yorkshire) I'd say the main difference over the last few years has without doubt been the significant increase in detection due to the use of mobile cameras.

Has the initiative made our county's roads safer? Not from what I witness when I'm out driving and not according to any independent statistics I've seen either; however, that hasn't stopped the camera van fleet growing ever larger so perhaps improving safety isn't really the objective?

I had a job in Wales a couple of weeks back. Some of my drive was on the A5. Because of the Dinmael thread running on here I thought it was almost criminal not to do 120mph on the A5. So I did. I would have preferred to have done it on the Dinmael stretch but hey ho.

Either is fine by me.

Of course if someone wants to follow your petulant, childish disobedience that’s fine. If Thayer do then they must know what’s coming...eventually. So why whinge like a small child?
