OK I'm an idiot. I think i was caught by a van on the A12 at Little Glenham last night at 6pm.

It goes from 50 to 30 and I think I was doing 40 ish. As I thought st!! And hit the brakes.

There is no excuse and I take it on the chin. The stupid thing is that I do this route every day and stick to the limits much to the annoyance of others.

This is my first ever speeding in 40 years of driving and I'm sure it's been asked hundreds of times but what could I be facing?

If you're around 40, it may very well be a course. If it's a bit high for that, then FPN - 3pt/£100.

SACs can be offered for up to 42mph in a 30mph limit. From there to 49mph, it's fixed penalty territory. Summons / SJPN at 50mph and above.

If the OP has ever exceeded a legally posted speed limit in their 40 years of driving prior to this prosecution, then they will have been speeding before, and they will have committed the offence of speeding before - They simply haven't been caught before.

You don't commit an offence only if caught.

Assuming the V5 is in your name and no recent change of addresses, you will find out in 14 days time.... but you maybe lucky, the 'target area' may not have been where you reduced speed, the operator may have seen you dropping speed and let it slip, may have been setting/packing up or may have been on a coffee break.

This is exactly what I was told when chatting to such an operator who seemed a decent type at a Police / speed awareness event display. What really attracts their attention is & I quote "drivers taking the mickey by either blatantly ignoring the limit by a considerable margin or being so lacking in observation they don't see the van". Of course every operator will have his/? hers interpretation of 'considerable margin' or just have a vindictive superior attitude, as many who love wearing uniforms do.

I got one a couple of weeks back. Gutted, annoyed at myself.
Bloody East Lancs rd, there is one short bit apparently that reduces from 50 to 40. Proud that I had not had one for a long time. No more taking the mick out of the wife and son.

53 in a 40, right on the limit for an awareness course.

Thanks everyone. I understand peoples skeptical nature but I do stick to speed limits as I cannot afford to lose my licence. In towns you cannot really afford to speed even if I do think 20 is too slow.

I will let everyone on here know what the outcome is. Like I said I will take it on the chin and I am not offering any excuse as there isn't any.
