Average speed camera after NSL sign
Discussion
I was driving up the M6 yesterday and there was a crash, so slow traffic between junctions 1 and 3. There are some roadworks as well with the usual average speed camera checks. Once we got past the crash, set cruise to 53mph and trundled along. Passed the NSL sign and what I thought was the last camera, so gunned it up to about 80-85, then after a little while I saw another average speed camera station. Obviously I'll just have to wait to know, but interested if anyone has seen this before, or even been caught out by it. Bloody devious tactic by them if it is live and trying to catch people out doing above 70.
Average speed cameras don't set the speed limit... the signs do, so if you have had a NSL sign, then the speed limit has reverted to 70
not quite sure how an average speed camera system will work where you need two or more cameras, and they cross a change of speed limit, so I would suspect that the last one was not in use...

I get that, just this is a first and if a live camera is definitly a sly tactic on there part, as proven if I get caught as never seen it before. Like the previous poster suggested, I'm hoping it was turned off. The last camera was just inside the 50.not quite sure how an average speed camera system will work where you need two or more cameras, and they cross a change of speed limit, so I would suspect that the last one was not in use...
Anyone know if they are forward facing or rear facing cameras?
Why did you find it necessary to "gun it up to 80 - 85"?. You now seem surprised that you may have been caught doing something you shouldn't.
Let me explain what the 3 letters NSL mean. I shall use simple English. National Speed Limit. Now, just in case you weren't listening when your driving instructor was informing you of the rules of the road - the NSL is 70mph. Difficult to comprehend, I know, but just in front of you is a round instrument with lots of numbers on it. 70 is AFTER 60, and BEFORE 80. Try it the next time you insist on using the outset lane all the time - you may find that the scenery in lane 1 is much nicer.....
Have I given you a clue???.
PS. You probably drive some stupid German machinery.

So many people have already suggested other ways to spend 20K.
Wasting it on a lump of metal with 4 wheels is NOT, and never has been, a wise investment for amateurs. You would have to have at least 20 years experience in the motor trade to know all the in's and out's of making a profit from motor vehicles.
Invest it in property which will, almost always, give you a much better return on your money.

You would also recall that the NSL varies depending on the vehicle you are in - just in case you weren't listening when your driving instructor was informing you of the rules of the road...

not quite sure how an average speed camera system will work where you need two or more cameras, and they cross a change of speed limit, so I would suspect that the last one was not in use...
The section straddling the limit could well be un-timed, e.g. 50mph sign (say), Camera 1, Camera 2, 70mph sign, Camera 3, Camera 4. You'd be timed between camera 1 & 2 and between camera 3 & 4, but probably not between camera 2 & 3.not quite sure how an average speed camera system will work where you need two or more cameras, and they cross a change of speed limit, so I would suspect that the last one was not in use...
