Hi all,

Just after some advice having received a notice of intended prosecution last week. The notice was sent to my parents house as I had forgotten to update the address on my V5, completely my fault. My driving licence and car insurance are registered to my correct/new address, just for some reason I had forgotten to send off the V5. Has anyone had a similar experience and how did it go? Any advice? I am thinking of returning the form and hoping nothing is said (of course I will also send off my V5 too)...

The address just needs to be one that'll reach you in a timely manner.

It has.

Job jobbed.

As the snail owner says, the registered keepers address doesn’t have to be your address, just one at which you can be contacted (many pro footballers use their solicitors apparently), nothing illegal in it at all.

You could correct the address in your reply, or if you are sure you’ll get the next communication OK via your parents leave it as is, whether you decide to update the V5 later is up to you, we still have our daughters registered at our address.

You might get lucky and only be punished for the NIP offence, or you might get fined an additional £1000 for failing to update your details with the DVLA: https://www.gov.uk/change-name-address-v5c .

No one can really say what will happen, based on their experience, they can only say what might happen.

Why would he get lucky and not get fined for something he hasn’t actually done wrong?

You have the notification, so don't fret. Of course don't ignore it either.
